i forgot to answer this question. I remember when I was completing my NNP program, the NCC made it a requirement for people to have 2 years experience in a Level 3 NICU before starting a NNP masters program. Check out the website http://www.nccnet.org

Depending on the institution you may be required to do some transport as an NNP. Also, no one says that once you become an NNP you cannot do agency as an RN to get in some bedside care if that is what your heart desires. I know some who do that.

Hello there, Sorry I have not been around for awhile. I work 12 hours shifts/3 x a week where I work (The day usually runs longer with sign out etc to 13+ some days). I also know of NNPs who work 10 shifts/4 x a week. It all depends on the institution you work for, some people may even work 24 hour shifts. Yes as a new NNP I do find the job challenging at times but that is what I signed up for when I decided to become an NP. That is with any specialty. I truly do enjoy what I do. I am actually paid hourly which works really well for me while some other NNPs I know are salaried and sometimes do not get paid for overtime, unlike myself. I am a new NP and had a couple of students in my class who had no nursing experience and one with nursing experience but not in our specialty. They both have had a difficult time getting jobs, unlike the rest of us in the class.

I just moved from Owings Mills, loved the area. The Metro to hopkins is a plus living there. Towson, Parkville, Perry Hall all nice areas.

remember to look at the whole package, ie: healthcare insurance, education benefits etc when also looking at the salary. just an fyi.

I am a NICU nurse so my answer is NO!!!! No matter how skewed my view is because of my NICU experience, I would be petrified.

Initial temp rectal. Temp underarm after that. If the infant seems to be hypothermic or hyperthermic via an axillary temp we double check with a rectal especially if the infant has other symptoms that tell us they are getting sick.

i graduated from college in '98 (first bachelors)...went back to nursing school 2001 & graduated in 2002...started working as an RN in 2002...worked and went to graduate school (NP) starting in 2003 and just finished at the end of 2005. That's how I did it :-)

I guess I will get it. I just got my MSN and will start my NP job soon. I am 28 but people always tell me they think I am 19 or 20. Wish me luck, I understand.

I worked while in NP school...actually I have less than a month until I have completed my NNP program. It was very hard but it can be done. Also, you will not have a social life, it is something u will have to sacrifice. Good Luck!!

When we draw up the albumin it gets filtered via special tubing that comes up with the albumin from pharmacy.

depends on the school. call the admissions office of the school you are interested in and ask what are there requirements. You can get into a school with the scores you have. If it is a ivy league/very competitive school you really want to get into it would not hurt to call to get info before submitting your scores. Are there any NNP students who are going to this conference in Clearwater FL? I am trying to make plans to go but don't know anything about the area (ex: do you need a rental car, hotels close to Sheraton Sand Key Resort etc. Thanks for any info you may be able to give me. Future NNP :balloons:

For Central lines (surgically placed) we (RN's) change them q Monday and if it gets soiled. For PICC lines, the NNP or MD changes that dressing if it gets soiled. Yes we do have a policy for CL dressing changes.
