Why do so many people insist on the fact that it's a good idea for pre-Nursing students to have straight A's? Does having straight A's indicate having good thinking/resonable skills ? Maybe ..Does it indicate good memoraztion skills ? Maybe. So how can we better determine someone's success in NS and as a future Nurse when both A students and C+ or B students may have the same qualities or weaknesses?hmmmmm...Surely not by raising admission standards! How can that be a solution when there are still high drop rates at schools with a high AS?hmmmm

Who said Instructor competence had or should have an effect on Admission standards?? I SAID, perhaps one of the reasons students drop out/fail might be due to their Instructor's incompetence.Read Carfully .

I've notice alot of posts regarding NS drop outs! Whats going on? Can it be that the instructors aren't competent enough? Is it that many students have other responsiblities besides NS( families, jobs, etc).I wonder if this also happens in MEd school!! Once AGAIN guys, I did not say admission standards are or should be affected by Instructor Incomptence.What sense would that make.I said, some students may drop out of NS maybe because of their instructor's lack of knowledge/skill.AGain, this doesn't always happen, but there are schools who cannot afford the best instructors.Thanks. How many of Today's Nurses were straight A students? Not that many I can imagine.I have known people who got into NS with a 2.7-3.0 GPA and there are great Nurses! LOl being a straight A student is not a indication of becoming a a competent Nurse in the future nor does a 2.7 gpa .Am I right or am I right?lol.How about lower the standards to what they were for those lucky Nurses out there and higher more competent instructors? I think thats the only solution to our shortage and the depression among those who really want to be a Nurse but just arent "A" students but do have GREAT RESONING ABILITIES.

So many people say they do not desire to remain a bedside Nurse , but would rather become a Nurse Practitioner , administrator, etc.Anyone feel the same? Why ?

I said some of the comments were discouraging .I never said I would stop pursuing a degree in Nursing .I have a B+ gpa, which is pretty high, so I believe that I can make it through Nursing school.Many people enter Nursing school with gpa's way below mine and do fine.lol....Didn't mean to respond so late guys! I'd like to thank everyone who responded to my post , whether it was negative or positive!! LMAOI LOVE AND WILL CONTINUE TO LOVE ALLNURSES.COM.Oh and You guys have helped me view " venting" in another perspective and I can't wait to VENT on this site when I do become a Nursing student ...Yahooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

....Gpa....Now, you can't get into a public school's nursing program unless you have a 3.78 or above! How frustrating! Anyone else upset about this sudden change in the nursing admission at the public schools?!Vent away...............Opinions/inputs from Nurses are welcome aswell...

I can already imagine what responses I'll get....But anyway...I and im sure, alot of other people who are pursuing a degree in Nursing are tired of some of the remarks that are made on this site regarding Nursing school! It's already stressful for many of us who are trying to get into a program and to hear such things like " when will this end," "15 people dropped out of my Nursing class last semester!!,"etc makes it even more stressful for us! Nursing school is not easy , but Im sure it's not "Hell." I have known many people who applied and got accepted into Nursing school with a 2.7.Uhmmmm, thats "pretty average Joe" to me and hey, they're pretty good Nurses now.

The purpose of this thread is to give a better understanding of the Nursing feild to those who are working towards becoming a Nurse!

Im tired of living around hypocrites! I'm a junior in college and I have no money what so ever.Im hoping to move to Canada, but I will be on my own.What should I do? I want to move there from the US , work for 1 yr, then enroll in a university so that I can finish my education.I heard that you must live in a provence in Canada for one yr before they can offer financial aid.Any advice?

Does the board exam include math and science aswell? What type of questions are asked? ABout how many questions are included? Can you work temporarily without a liscence until you pass does test like teachers can?

Well, I can honestly say that I wanted to be A Nurse even before I knew what the salary was.If it was really about making big money, I would have gone to the Business industry or medecine( just a few examples).....You know what I mean? Furthermore, I want to be a NUrse not only because I feel it's my vocation, but because I think I can live a comfortable life doing being one.Who would want a career inwhich you have to live paycheck to paycheck? Come on lets be real.If you don't know your worth and if you don't want to be paid the money you are worth, thats your problem.Oh and I have no problem with POOP or blood, its the death/dying that I need to learn to cope with.lol
