  1. first my sympathies to you on the death of your grandfather. thank you for taking the time to remind us all of nursing at its best. we all deal with lifes most difficult moments and what makes it all worth it is to be appreciated.
  2. this is very timely for me as i have just yesterday seen a posting at my trust for an AP. just doing some research about it. i had looked into Nurse anesthetist in the states but there it's a very intensive MSN program and they really discourage you from working during the program, a little difficult to contemplate as a single mom!! but what i've seen posted is a 27 month F grade trainee position, and looking at the AP website you can go on to get a master's (which i would cause i don't trust their "certificates"....) anyway, i figure, i have a BSN, 10+ years in critical care, working in an ITU here in birmingham with no prospects of moving up, so what do i have to lose, the trainee position is a promotion for me!!! i'm wondering, when you say 50K, is that £50K or $50K???? £50K i could be very happy with!!! i'm not out to get rich, just want to get out of ITU and into something i can do til i retire!!
  3. oh dear, i know kaylesh from an american expats forum, small world! there is one other nurse there also. was hoping to find some others, i can't believe that there aren't more here in the UK. i love it here and want to stay but am really finding it hard because the home office changed the time for ILR from 4 to 5 years and they have taken band 5 and 6 nurses off the work permit shortage list, which means i am pretty much tied to my current position for 1.5 years!!! i am finding some of the changes in the NHS really difficult, i feel like my experience is not reflected in my pay. my co workers value my contributions but i feel limited because i don't have all the certificates. anyway, maybe there are some others out there!
  4. are there any US nurses working in the UK??? i know times are tough in the NHS and everyone wants to leave but anybody want to share their fustration??? maybe you are one of the lucky ones who is able to work in the private sector? please give us some tips!!!! i'm a BSN nurse, critical care for more than 10 years, working at university hospital birmingham on a work permit......
  5. that's a lot of questions......generally you should try to put similar drugs together. sedatives together, pressors together, tpn has to be on it's own, insulin with magnesium and potassium. sorry i'm in england and forget exactly what is compatible in the states. but what did stand out was your comment about turning off the morphine/ versed while the pt is paralyzed........big no-no!!! go up on your pressors, titrate down on the sedation but i was taught a pt should never be paralyzed without proper sedation. i'm sure others can add to that. good luck!
