  1. It would be nice of people could buy integrity like milk every time they fall short. I will look over my MARs more carefully now.
  2. Wow, this takes me back to my first two weeks. You are very right...they stink. It was very scary, I was scary! I am in week 10 now and as one wise RN said, my response to the stress is better. The job is still the same, but I got better at dealing with it. All the best in your adjustment period.
  3. I just want to thank everyone for the well thought and useful information. I was lucky enough to get a job where I precepted, same shift and everything. I love the staff and most are real helpful...perhaps this will take some edge off. I will review policies in detail before performing skills like central line d/c'ing, foley insertion, and blood drawns from central lines. I have heard how each facility varies. I too have problems with prioritization already and have never really had a real bad shift...I am sure it is coming though. In addition, I am the hardest on myself because all along, if I set high goals...I achieve them. Again, thanks so much...this site is great and so very helpful!:balloons:
  4. I am a student and will graduate this December. My question is "what are common struggles that new graduates face on the floor?" I am excited and after precepting, I feel much more confident; however, I would love to hear about things to watch for, things to hold on tight too, situations to run from...all comments welcomed:)
  5. wow, you really hit the nail on the head. Nice job
  6. social skills! That is how you deal with any people
  7. WOW, you have been given some great advice! I have 13 years experience of CNA, probabley more than any other in my class. It has been a wonderful benefit to me. Keep in mind, no job (career) will come complete with no faults and I particularly liked the idea of using as great time to assess skin and provide interventions! Best wishes and it is never too late to find something different.
  8. i agree to some extent about acute care over ltc, but still think ltc offers stable caregiver to patient relationship and is more rewarding. good thing to each is own, blessings in your adventures!
  9. awesome, all such great advice! You'll learn how to work like an ox and at the end of a good shift you may even feel like one. however as you see your patient appreciate your support your heart goes back to jello again...very rewarding place to be take each event as a learning tool and grow from that you may meet coworkers that you may want to be like... and you may meet coworkers that are not so appealing to be like i still after 12 years find the responce of my patient/resident as the best judge of my performance
  10. i too have become wiser as a aid. i have learned to read patients a little better and this offers a great deal of better services from the nurses perspective. i dont ever see compassion as a "bad thing", stay professional and prayers are blessings from angels! if you would want your behavior for your own family? TazziRn has a good point though. cant bring it to the dining room table at home!
  11. interesting replies. i like the remove the badge idea. i do this at times as it can get in the way of transfers. our facility doesnt require our last name
  12. DATE: sometime in May PROGRAM: Transition Paramedic to Associate of Science RN SCHOOL: College of Southern Idaho STATE: Idaho WHEN: August 2006 Very cool!
  13. Here is my opinion. Southern Idaho offers the best of the four seasons. We do risk having a white Christmas, but not always. Our spring is short and to the point and offers a wonderful sight of the falls on the Snake River. Summer is warm to hot during the day with cooling at night. Lots of crops ya know! And then at last fall... you may trick or treat in snow too. Best part is the snow never gets to deep in southern idaho and does melt off usually...transient i suppose over the winter months. Perfect place to enjoy all the seasons (hope this helps)
  14. i work as a CNA and get my tuition paid by my employer under the contract to work after graduation as RN for one year. I believe everyones situation is different, keep up the good work at researching your options! and of course best wishes
