Absolutely! Overall I think the faculty is really motivated to make sure we're successful. It's been kind of a weird semester, so we're also having different types of interactions with our professors. The WHNP faculty are VERY supportive. There are some "interesting" personalities, which you will understand if you do any Zoom meetings or Accepted Students Day, but they all have our backs. That being said, I wish we had MORE on-campus time so we could know our faculty and cohort members better. We have a pretty tight class, and chat a lot on facebook and otherwise, but I think that depends on your cohort dynamics.

@NJ-RN12 I like the program well enough. The OCI's thus far have been mostly primary care stuff with part of our Spring OCI this year as WH stuff. However, our June OCI has been canceled, and most (if not all) of us have had our Summer clinicals canceled or put on hold for the time being. So while they have been fairly good, there was apparently a huge class between all the programs when I started and they had some challenges with the size of the group and organization of the OCIs. This if for ALL specialties, not particular to WH, since they all follow the same track until this semester, when we start having some different classes. As far as faculty being supportive, do you mean as far as COVID-19 stuff? or in general?

Just as an FYI for all of you applying, pretty much all of the NP program students were unable to complete clinical rotations for Spring semester. All on-campus classes have been canceled for Summer I, and Summer II is up in the air. Many clinical sites will not agree to have students (MD, PA, or NP) for the foreseeable future. So I wouldn’t be surprised if there are still some delays going on. Many of us are unsure if we’ll be graduating on time at all, but that isn’t just Duke. Just throwing that out there. Be prepared for stuff to be up in the air no matter where you’re going.

Our interviewers were not necessarily people from our program, but all of the NP programs share a core faculty who do the core classes like research, professional development, pathophys, pharm, and assessment, so they’ll have a clue. However, my friend who is in the PMHNP program said she WAS interviewed by her program faculty.

I don’t think they’re looking for anything other than any other program. And I honestly don’t know what their criteria are. ??♀️ I think if you look up interviewing techniques for school admission, that’ll be helpful.

CJRN07 Fall 2018, but I agree, I think it can vary a great deal.

That sounds low for the WHNP program. I think there were 20-some offered admission for our class, but a little more than half accepted.

Messed up my post above. Somehow I typed into the quote. Between the Fall and Spring combined cohorts in the current WHNP cohort, there are 25 student. One is a post-masters certificate, the rest are BSN to MSN or DNP.

Between the Fall and Spring combined cohorts in the current WHNP cohort, there are 25 student. One is a post-masters certificate, the rest are BSN to MSN or DNP. 2. I watched the informational video for the WHNP program specifically for those applying for this fall term. The video was recorded last August and featured the director of the WHNP program and one of the admissions officers. The director stated they receive roughly 25 WHNP applicants each term, and they try to keep the cohort size between 6 to 12 at most. So if they only offer interview invites to half and then accept 2/3 of those interviewed, that would line up. But again, bear in mind that a) applicant pools can vary widely from term to term, and b) that info was specific to the WHNP track and may differ from other specialties/tracks. But there you go, for what it’s worth! ??♀️?

I didn't get any email, either. I only applied for the MSN program, though.

I worked at St. Peter's right out of nursing school, and it was a very poor fit, though I know that some of my classmates are there and very happy. I've been working at Albany Med for more than a year now, and am very happy on my unit. I also have a good friend who was at St. Peter's with me and is now at AMC and happy on her unit. It all depends on the person, the job and the overall vibe of the unit, I think.
