Foot Care Nurse
The salon school has helped me build my confidence and teach me marketing skills! I can also work in a salon (just opens more doors for me!-I have been in the hospital as a staff nurse for 31 years and have cut back to PT). Yes, you will help people feel much better after working on their feet..it is great to see the improvement even after one treatment! I believe we will all get personnal satisfaction for the help to people we will provide. I am excited about the future! May I ask where your class is being held, when, and the cost of the training? The high speed podiatry/vac looks like the way to go for me also. Thank you for the advice on the book you purchased. I have a copy coming to me from Amazon. It looks like a very helpful tool to add to my library. Hopefully more footcare nurses will join us on this thread. Networking and support of each other is what we all could use!

Foot Care Nurse
How long is the training with Laura? Dr. Overstreet offers a day. I am in NY state and the west coast travel adds up. There is training in Toronto Canada, and North Carolina (thru Taylor) I found. Also a week training in NB, Canada (but nail tech school was the same price and was 18 weeks long). I also can do people's fingernails too..opens up more possibilities for me. Meeting local podiatrists is good too.

Foot Care Nurse
Congratulations!! I wish you every success! I am a RN looking to open my foot care nurse care business this spring. I have Dr. Overstreet's DVD. I decided to go to a local salon school and take the nail technician program for education and comfort level afforded by my clinical experience. I want to take the certification exam also. After being done with school next month, I am going to pursue more education on diabetic feet. Any suggestions as to what programs are full of information?

Foot care training
For Yrmagesty3, I live in Buffalo NY. I was planning on driving (have hubby go with me). But for the money for the class, gas, and room I began to research other avenues. There is nothing close to me at all. There is a weeks class in New Brunswick Canada which looks good, but is far and the total price is alot. I just met with the recruiter at a local Beauty School for the Nail Tech program which is 600 hrs. total and after testing would have NY State license. The program looks good (even though I would learn to do artifical nails, wraps, etc.) I would get a solid education on foot care, practical experience, sterlization, business practices, marketing. I am seriously looking at this program...the cost is reasonable and I feel I would get a much better education and practical experience for my practice!! Email me if you would like my other research I've done. [email protected]

Foot care training
I have found several nurse foot care training classes in US as well as training via DVD. I am a RN with BSN. I am willing to go out of town to a training course with a practical component. I would certify in the area also. I am in Buffalo Ny, right across the border from Ontario, so this is why I wondered if training was offered closer to home. Thank you.

Foot care training
Hi Dawn, I am interested in foot care as an independent busines here in New York State. I too have been going through my state's Nurse Practice Act to see if this is possible. I haven't found out yet. I have found little training in the US. Have you attended a formal training for foot care? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Polly RN

Opinion needed about business idea....
Years ago at the hospital I still work in, there was a cart that went through the hospital manned by volunteers with gift shop items to purchase...magazines, newspaper, candies, toilet items , etc. I know this isn't the same item...just brought back a positive memory. I like your idea. What I find in the system I work is less for more. Get them in and get them out! I hope your idea in your hospital system would be something they may entertain. Good luck to you!

Neuro ICU nurses: What do you think about increased VAP due to the patients lying flat for multiple CATT scans and repeated angios possibly causing aspiration??
