UVA Nursing
How is it working there and what are they paying new nurses? Ironically, I will have to take a pay cut when I quit my job and finish nursing school. Looks like I may have to move out of beautiful Charlottesville because it will be too expensive to live in with the pay cut!

Pvcc?
Sounds like you are in. I know they give people a date to commit by and if they do not commit then their spot is given to the person on the waiting list. You should not have a problem being #2. One of my classmates in the current course I am taking was accepted last year and could not attend because she was pregnant. I will be in the evening program.

Pvcc?
Hang tight, you are in a good position, there has got to be 1 or 2 people that are not going to be able to start class. If you have not done so, I suggest you visit the program office, introduce yourself, let them know who you are and how interested you are in attending. This way you are not just number 2 but a person to them who is seriously looking to get in.

Pvcc?
I got in back in March. Scheduled to start on Sept 1. Some of the people are already taking classes this summer. Good luck and hope you get in.

Joining the AF - need help
wtbcrna, what do they do with an individual who changes careers, becomes a nurse and previously served in the AF as an 04?

Promotion timelines in the ANC
There is a war going on, everything is waivable, even criminal records aka moral waivers. I am out of the AF and collecting a VA disability, I wonder if they would let me come back to the AF? I know I could go back to the Army but I am not up for the yearly deployments that come every couple of years.

Second-career? what was the first?
I won a nursing scholarship coming out of HS but being a male, I did not think I would do well 23 years ago. In the meantime, I have been a cop, an army artillery officer, an air force jag, a prosecutor and now a disability attorney. I finally came aroundand started nursing school this summer at 41! I hope to love it.

What is the specialty with the most travel opportunies
Thanks for all of the responses. I am leaning toward the ER when I am done with nursing school. I am currently an EMT and enjoy the work very much. I would like to see what happens after I drop the patient off and in a year or 2 getan RV with my wife and travel the US.

LTC tips please!!!...
LTC has got to be one of the toughest places for a nurse to work. I am an EMT and we get a good deal of calls to this one facility in town. It is really a depressing place from what I see when I go there to take the elderly people to the hospital. I would rather work in an ER than to stare at what the future holds for most of us.

What is the specialty with the most travel opportunies
Thanks Skippy, Traveling is one the reasons I want to go into nursing. No other career seems to afford you as many opportunities

Piedmont Virginia Community College
I got accepted last month and will be attending this coming school year. I am planning on taking the health assesment class over the summer to lighten the load up during the fall semester.

volunteering opportunities
Hello everyone, I am deciding whether or not the nursing field is for me. I would like to volunteer at a local hospital and wanted to find out what are some of the positions that I should volunteer for. I've noticed that they run the full spectrum from greeter and waiting room attendant to cheer cart pusher. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Any other UCF students here?
Thank you for all the information, it was quite helpful. I've just retired from my law enforcement job and have excellent grades in both undergrad and grad studies, I do not anticipate getting in to be a problem-I am just agonizing on whether or not to pursue this career and what program to join. Did you shadow a nurse before making the decision? I also found that the University of Florida also has an accelerated program that does not require chemistry and takes 13 months to complete. The countdown to your first anniversary is cute (enjoy the honeymoon), my wife and I just had our 17th yesterday! Time flies by.
