  1. Go for it...take it from a new grad RN who is excelling with leaps and bounds in L&D...if it's your passion go for it and don't look back. I knew prior to nurisng school L&D was my calling and there is no denying it. I look at it this way you have worked so hard to achieve your degree why not put it to use in an area that "moves" you. I am at a large teaching hospital with 3 clinical educators and lots of classess and floor practicums. Just make sure they plan to do an extensive orientation with you and don't just throw you out there. Myself personally if i had to wake up everyday and do med/surg nursing i wouldn't be effective to my patients and it would mentally wear me down....so i figured let me be happy and passionate about what i am doing everyday...best of luck
  2. Take it from me I took Hurst Online with 3 weeks before testing and it made all the difference for me. The study plan i used was just reviewing the notes. I didn't do flashcards because time was of the essence for me. However i did make a schedule and i would do like fluid and electrolytes for two days and another topic for two days. It worked for me. I passed with 75 questions. Remember the goal is to get more right than wrong as Marlene would say...best of luck youll do wonderful:balloons:
  3. Florida results tend to show up at 6am two days after the test so about 40-42 hours post test. this is how i found out i passed i didn't go to quick results
  4. 1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? 75 questions 2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? Hurst Review and it offers a Mock NCLEX after you have throughouly studied the materials and strategies. 3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? HESI(terrible terrible) and they offered a 3 day HESI review course 4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? I waitied exactly 41 hours after the test my name appeared on the State board of nursing website. 5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? I intially felt indifferent thinking wow there was so much i didn't know i needed more questions. Then i thought well i know i got some right so if i was close to failing i hoped the computer would have given me more questions. Over the next 41 hours i bounced back and forth thoughts of passing and failing. I just wasn't sure either way. 6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? Yes..my first attempt thank God!!:balloons:
  5. I completly agree worth a thousand pennies....the best review.....im glad i made the right decision to take Hurst...:balloons:congratulations:balloons:
  6. No no it's not a stupid question Hurst review goes to other states ive seen Maryland and VA but i did notice they are mostly in the south but just to clarify i took the online portion because in my short time span i couldn't get to a live review. My friends all did the live review in tampa they made a girls week out of it and had fun with it. The online review was awesome unlike other reviews where you just sit and read Marlene is actually lecturing to you and you watch her and follow along with very in depth notes...hope this helps
  7. Congratulations to you...way to go:balloons:...it's a wonderful feeling I too tested on 8/7 and this morning at 6:30 am i put my name in on the board of nursing website and my name and license number popped up. Tears starting streaming down my face. Tears of joy, relief, and happiness. I am so thankful to God he definately had a hand in this and nursing school too. I just wanted to tell everyone good luck and go with your first instinct it's always right ( I sure did). Also i would like to add if you don't feel ready to test then don't test. I'm not talking about nerves or butterfiles but really a gut feeling that says hey don't do it then don't. I was about one week away from testing had taken a $300 review course and used Saunders and i just didn't feel prepared so i rescheduled my test and gave myself an extra two weeks and spoke some friends who did other reviews and they all recommended Hurst Review. So i said okay let me look into this i called them they were wonderful i explained my situation and asked them if they could help me and they told me about their online review..when i tell you Marlene and her review program are God sent im telling you the truth. I could have saved myself alot of time and money if I would have done Hurst review from the start but, im glad i found it in the end. Good luck to everyone out there...NCLEX is a bridge we will all cross. :balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons:
  8. This is right on the money and I'll be the first to say i want a nurse at my bedside that has compassion and integrity rather than the one who made straight A's. There is so much more to nursing than the test measures i just wish it had a clinical component to it...maybe in a few more years we will get there.
  9. I definately know how you feel i took the exam also this morning and had tons of meds(ughh) some i had never even heard of and then mostly infection control and prioritizing. No select all, one med calc, no peds, no psych, i felt they didn't ask me about anything i knew...now the waiting game begins....i am so scared..all of my friends have passed and im just so nervous...I am honestly not sure how i did i feel clueless. It's weird I prayed for only 75 questions and thats what i got however, when it happened i found myself mad because i felt my vast amount of nursing knowledge wasnt displayed in the questions asked...Now i wait until thursday and just pray...it's out of my hands. Keep me in your thoughts...thanks everyone:o
  10. I think you took the wrong approach from the beginning. The student may have not wanted to do too much without you, especially knowing that they are working under your license and he/she may just have wanted your reassurance. I encourage you to think back to when you were a student how would you have felt if you had yourself as a preceptor, also what's so bad to having her watch you write out papers, nursing is not all ekg's and blood work, the student is correct she isn't going to be a tech she is studying to be a nurse you should have just let her sit there and observe, was she really distracting you that much. Nurses have such short memories, you once were in that position....don't forget where you came from:redlight:
  11. Keep your head up and I would suggest apply to the larger universities, I have heard their wait lists are shorter than the CC. I would also suggest out of state maybe if that is an option for you.~Best of Luck
