WOW!! First I am really sorry your school allowed you to take II before I, that is kinda crazy... But thinking about it, II does build on I BUT you can still understand what is happening and suffer through. If you feel more confident by re-taking II before I, do it... Do NOT take both together, I had a very stressful time taking med term, chem, and A&P I the same quarter... but it can be done. Work on study habits when you re-take the class... sometimes when professors say you will need 2 hours study time a day they MEAN it!! :) Having a good study group/partner can help before test time also. Best of luck... you can do it!

I want to go to Catawba Valley CC. Do you know anything about their nursing program? My hubby is from Taylorsville and I KNOW I don't want to move to that small of a town. :) From what I can read online, it seems their program starts after May. I will not be there until Oct. 06 because I am finishing up my degree in surgical technology in Georgia. I am hoping I can get into their program... I can't wait to get out of GA. :)

You have to do something, that puts you in the bad light just as it does the ST and surgeon. On all the laparoscopic procedures I have worked on, the surgeon always suture the trocar sites... What did they do??? Staple it or mastisol it??? And the breaks of sterile technique are simply mindblowing!!!

Techs may not "assist" but we do suction, staple, cut suture, and retract all the time. We are more hands on(blood and guts), but not better than ANYONE in the room. I couldn't do my job without a wonderful circulator to get additional/different suture, more laps, or anthing else that was added to the case b/c of a faulty preferrence card... In addition, you should check out ST programs, if you have currently had A&P, Pharm, and Chem you might be able to go into the clinical phase and only have about a year to become a surgical technologist.. As a STS, I work in the OR all day. I love it and ALL those in the room with me. During my studies, we are told of RN's this and ST's that.. in the end, we have to work towards the goal.. patient care. Sometimes the case at hand can cause tention in the room, maybe a bad day for the surgeon, tech, or circulator... that makes everyone have a ""hard" day. ST's in general just want to make sure that the sterile field is maintained.. PERIOD. This is one of the main focuses of our position in the OR. I am very sorry that the ST's have seemed "rude" or "tough", sometimes they can be. Just remember to do your best to maintian sterile and observe the case.. Being that close to human anatomy is such a learning experience... :)
