Hello! That's right, regarding Hunter. They have two courses in Chemistry...and to make certain that the Nursing students take them, they state (in catalogue, anyway) that they will not give credit for part one unless the student completes part two -- adding up to total of nine credits. You probably already know that NYU is "shaking up" its Nursing program, and as of Sept. '05, Nursing has been moved from the School of Ed and placed under the College of Dentistry. Why it couldn't be placed under the College/School of Medicine mystifies me. For the time being the Nursing HQ are still located at Washington Sq., but I imagine that they will be moving them...when, I cannot say. Got to go...have a good evening! Fleur2

Hello, again! I paid Hunter College a visit today -- very interesting. I notice that the Chemistry requirements there are nine credits -- split between two semesters (4.5+4.5). While NYU is asking for five credits. Does anyone know of another area school that offers a five credit Intro to Modern Chemistry course? I can just imagine the frustration of taking one of the Hunter courses and then having someone at NYU (the powers that be) inform me that I must continue with "part two" to fulfill the requirement. That is the type of thing a person would want to know ahead of time -- not after taking the course.... Of course, perhaps they would allow a little barter...say a person were willing to take another hard core course in the natural sciences, one with fewer credits. I will probably pay BMCC a visit tomorrow, just to see what they offer...and to see to whom I may speak.... Have a good evening. Fleur2

Hi, Sqm! I'm in a similar boat as you are! Am a former graduate from NYU & am looking for an area school to take some nursing pre-recs in. Hunter College used to allow non-matriculated students in 1980, but I am not certain that they still do so. Perhaps you have some more up-to-date information. I probably won't be formally re-admitted to NYU until Jan. '07, but I am not willing to waste time when I could be taking some of those pre-recs in the interim. Hi, Fun2 I tried your site & it is great! I can definitely relate to your beginning the trip, not certain if you will be admitted, etc.! My story is similar to yours. I got my graduate degree in 1986 [MPH] but for a long time have wanted to get into an RN program. Last week, I finally decided to apply. When going to my old school (where I shall apply) I discovered that my old profs have left or have retired -- no longer accessible to me (for ref. letters). Just trying to "dig one up" is quite a task! I also have a waiting period of two semesters...while here I am thinking, if I am going to begin, then let us begin! On a practical line, I am thinking that perhaps I can take some of the nursing pre-recs at an area school...or even come in as a non-matriculated student and take them. (This means another visit to campus this week for another discussion!) Any experts out there on what NYU will or will not do? Its nursing program has just been upgraded...or at least moved (but that is not why I chose it). Will be glad to share with any NYU nursing students my experiences in getting my BA & MPH from there -- just on a practical line -- but you would want to recheck, given I got my degree in '86. Good thought, Mel! I am not eager to spend extra time in school either. I do not think that I shall be admitted until Jan. '07 & am thinking of attempting to pick up a couple of courses as a non-matriculated student at a 2nd school in my area (if I can find one with like pre-recs). Much of this is speculative, I admit, but my old school appears to be interested in admitting me (one never knows until it is on paper, does one!).... Thanx! Fleur2

Hi, One issue not touched upon -- when all is said & done, it comes down to what is best for the patient.... I am going back to school for a 2nd degree...and as I screen the catalogue, I wonder 'If I do not take X course, how will this effect those that I am there [in hospital] to help?' I have a ton of behavorial sciences under my belt [anthropology/psychology/etc] so I do not feel a driving need to retake those; however, I may take some extra sciences [chemistry/microbiology, etc]. ...So, my suggestion is to give it some thought....
