  1. I'm on the RN to DVM or MD route myself. I've noticed similar attitues from nursing folk about crossing to MD, and I think it's a shame because I think that we can bring a lot of the good things about the nursing perspective to the md role. Horray for the great attitudes and encouragement you are finding here! You might enjoy the student doctor network do a search for it, I think it's abrev. SDN. Good luck! Cheryl
  2. looked into the AF but they wanted bsn's, and besides, won't take me because i'm on medication. (and I'm too old for active duty). oh well, I'll keep looking!
  3. Thanks for taking the time to answer. Your wages are higher than I thought they would be. I'm still looking for ways to make money during nursing school. Sounds like the experience would really be a plus. I'm still looking into teaching home-schooled kids for the school district as well. Thanks again, Cheryl
  4. What are you allowed to do? How much do you make/hour? What state are you in? Is the hospital flexible w/ your school schedule, or has this been problematic? What did you have to do to qualify for this position? Thanks for the info, Cheryl

I looked in the bookstore at the mall for an APA writers guide and couldn't find one. I'm used to MLA too, but my Intro to Nursing teacher said that most nursing schools use APA. I didn't know where to get it, now I do, Thanks! Cheryl
  6. I had it last semester. Friday nights and Sundays from 1-4. Usually ended up there until 5. Pulled an A by the skin on my teeth. It sucked, pardon the expression. But I am glad that I took it before A&P because now some of this stuff is review. My teacher was a tyrrant. We had to do term papers with a 15 minute oral presentation, each test covered 5-6 chapters, except the last one which had parts of 10 chapters (of course we had to guess WHICH parts). It was truly awful. My hardest class ever. The Tortora Book has a website, but I sold mine back to buy my books for this semester so I don't have the address to give you. Back a while ago, there was a microbiology thread in the student nursing forum, I bet you'd find some web sites there. Also, did your book come w/ a cd? Mine helped me, especially with immunology. Good luck, hang in there. Email me for moral support any time!
  7. ok, this is veterinary (I'm not a nurse yet) the chart for a diabetic cat who was transferred from another hospital said "gave karo syrup, sub Q) The tech's actually tried putting the syrup in a syringe to see if it would squeeze through!! hahaha
  8. good for you guys. i love to see the employees fight back. I'm glad you got the settlement you deserved. with all the stress you nurses deal w/ the least they can do is give you a darned lunch break. Sounds like it's common for people not to get them though.
  9. Well, I don't know if Tim's still reading, but I for one am glad that you are all here and are so honest about the day to day grind. I am waiting to get into the RN/BSN program and the things I read here do concern me as far as dealing with the "eat the young" type nurses who await me on my rotations and first job. However, I am encouraged by the many helpful and supportive nurses I read here. You go to bat for people and help them know when to negotiate, and when to get the hell out of dodge. You give us information to help us succeed in our classes and our careers. You've given us a place to meet other student nurses, and you've provided mentorship. I am not scared away from the profession because of "negative" things I read here, I am better prepared to face the real world upon graduation. Tim is off base and out of line for the caustic second post. If someone visits my house and starts being rude to me I ask them to leave. Why does he think he can drop in on this BB and criticize what happens here. When a new person starts a job do they come in and start trying to change everything immediately? (Yes, if they are MANAGEMENT trying to make their mark by sitting behind their mahogony desks spending their time dreaming up ways to make other peoples' lives miserable.) I have never been a company "yes" man, and I never will be. I support the unions of this country and the blue collar workers who make the world go around. Tim may think he's a good manager, but he could use some brushing up on his tact and diplomacy. Gotta say it like it is sometimes. Cheryl
  10. Anyone in neo-natal icu willing to chat with me so I can add your feedback to my term paper? I'm a prenursing student and one of my assignments is to research and report about an area of nursing I may want to go into. I have taken kids from my afterschool program to the neo-natal ward for a tour and talk from the charge nurse about tobacco and birth weight, drugs, etc. It was a moving experience for all of us. Any takers? Email me! Thanks.
