  1. So, I got my date, (my real one this time!!) for 10/17 at Faxton-St.Lukes in Utica. :-) Kinda scary! I had originally wanted to go to a conference but I just dont have the money for it now and I really dont want to go somewheres by myself. Also, I am not good in long school like sessions and some of these things are like 8am - 10p at night! Thats nuts! So I was thinking of alternatives that would be good and I am just wondering if anyone has ever done Excelsiors online skills conference and if it is worth it. Thanks in advance! -Shawnna
  2. I have about 20-22 depending on census but I do all the meds and all the treatments, any orders that may come in, bs & insulin for the diabetics, calling/faxing docs if someone should get really sick and also handle any emergencies that come up. I do have a unit manager that is there from 7a-12p to help but she often has her set of things do work on.
  3. I used to work at a mental health facility and there I had been spit at, bitten, hit, meds smacked out of my hands. TOOOONS of verbal, emotional abuse. A night nurse that works in my current facility (LTC) was clocked in the face by a pt having a paradoxical effect to Ativan. Knocked flat on her ass. Even in nursing school, I got called a mouthful of names i don't think theyd let me post on here and then the pt tried to kick me. I knew it came with the job, you just gotta wach out and help were you can.
  4. WOW. Are you serious? Are we in high school here? Never have i EVER met an LPN who wanted to "burn" an RN because they were jealous of their title. Those that want to become RNs do the schooling. I am an LPN and I have NEVER put one of my patients in jeopardy to "burn" an RN. Quite frankly, I am absolutely disgusted with you for this comment. It makes me wonder what kind of nurse YOU are.
  5. Then please go post in the 'What do you HATE about LTC?' forum.

  7. Ooo, they actually let you send them care plans?? Who do I send these to?
  8. Soooo.... I just got a packet today with someone else's name on it for my test date/site, and I called Excelsior and that date was inteded for that other person! So, now I don't know when my date is.... which I must say is ok with me right now because that would have only given me 2 months to study! I thought it was waaay too soon to recieve a test date (3 days after my application was accepted) Definately I ton of weight off my shoulders!
  9. Thanks! I know what the 0-10 pain scale is, it's just that when I am going over all the answers in the study guide it always said acute pain r/t tissue trauma aeb and then it states some number out of 10, and I just had no idea where they got those numbers from and how I am supposed to make a nursing diagnosis when i have no idea what her pain scale is (i guess we make a ncp then go see our pt. i think...) so that was all my confusion. But thank you again for thta post and I will browse through it. Any help is very much appreciated! :-)
  10. The only 2 that passed?? yikes! But congrats to you for it! What are there... usually 6 people in the group right?
  11. Thanks! Ill try to look some stuff up. :)
  12. Thank you very much, that does help. :-) One thing that I just cannot wrap my head around is, when you say acute pain r/t tissue trauma aeb 7 out of 10 pain.... is that you write these up before you go into the room right? well how do you know if their pain is a 7? do you see it when you get the kardex and the other information from report and you can change it during the eval phase if it is now a 2? Ive been doing the ones in the study guide and one is like the above nsg dx and i just didnt know how they got that number... and I guess thats what actually got me all confused about this in the first place.... :chuckle.... oh my my my. I think Ill get it eventually. :-)
  13. Ohh good! Hey maybe you'll get to go to Utica on July 28th... with me! haha.
  14. Wow. Really? I would say if you can get up to New York at all try that because they have a TON of sites. And keep hoping for a cancellation date. I hope things work out. :-)
