:angryfire Dear fellow nurses, southern towns are not the only place where racism is alive and well, I work in St. Louis and let me tell you, all I get from ppl is, "Are you my nurse aid?" (even though I just delegated a task or something to my white NA), or, "So you bettered yourself and went to night school." WHAT?!?!?!? Like I used to live some lowly existence, or I used to be some crack head or something. I went to school in the daytime like everybody else at my university. I hate the way that my patients and Dr's believe anything that come out of a white face, but let me tell them the same thing they have to verify and identify. I could maybe understand if I were unproffesional, but I am not, I am excellent at my job, always perfectly groomed, uniform neatly pressed and clean. It just burns me up that my white co workers are always considered the authority or expert on any subject, even when its not thier pt, oh how many times have I sat there in disbelief as some nurse that does not even have my patient try to answer a question about them from the doctor or family. Finally I just asked a Dr. , "what is it about me that makes you think I cant perform my job?" (the jury is still out on that one folks) I just got accepted into a CRNA program, and I look forward to my unconcious pts. Lawd bring me peace!

Slu hospital will pay 2/3 of your tuition if you work for them, they also pay back your student loans up to 400 per month as long as you are an employee so you can have your loans paid for and most of your current schooling too

Well, I have definitely seen the light, I was taught that this was acceptable when I worked on a tele floor years ago, I myself have not written one because I transferred to ICU and we just dont discharge to home with scripts, but I totally thought that it was ok to do. Wow... now I know...and by the way, what is a BON?

Not trying to rain on any parades, but I thought when you broke a contract you had to pay it back, a friend of mine did the same thing, put in about a year on a horrible floor then tried to leave...not only did she owe them over 10,000 but they DNR her too. she was not a bad employee, just could not handle the floor and the manager refused to let her transfer. Now she is up a creek because the hospital owns many other hospitals in our area and her option are so limited. the worst part is her "loan" from the hospital was not even prorated. so its like she put all that time in for nothing.

I worked 2 jobs all throughout nursing school and my grades were great, sure I was tired but we had to eat and have a place to live. I say, if you dont have to work while in school then you are lucky, if you do then just focus and know that it will be over before you know it.

Lots of nurses on the floor do it at my hospital, we just cant do narcotics. Like if the doctor discharges on pepcid or something like that and it is a new prescription, we send them home with a script written by us with the dr name and our name. this is in our scope of practice, heck even medical assistants do it at the md office, so if they can do it I know we can.
