  3. I have close to 2 years in post-partum which I left in 10/2009. I am looking at just about everything. I would consider a nurse re-entry program as long a it is not too far from the Actworth area.

  5. Hi everyone, I will be moving to ATL next week. I was hoping someone could help give me some direction in who might be hiring. I have recent experience in case management. I also have experience in post-partum, LTC and a methadone/drug rehab clinic (I know that options are few with my limited experience). Does anyone know anything about the re-entry programs at local hospitals for nurses who have been away from the bedside for a while? I would be interested in that and any information you might be able to provide. Thank you for your support and guidance as it is most appreciated.:)
  6. I can tell you that if you stick with it you will learn it. I have been working in a hospital floating to several different medical floors and I do not have an acute care background. It is very challenging, but if I can learn and make progress, you can too. Don't give up, I know it is discouraging at times, but it will come. Hang in there and you will look back and wonder at how much you have learned and grown in the position. Good Luck! I made myself a note book with the plastic covers and put the documents we use often. Put dividers in the note book with tabs. This will help you stay organzied and help you to remember what each document is used for. You can make notes on them so that you don't forget what they are for. In addition, get a little phone book that you can write numbers in that you use frequently. Take notes and if you have the time, type them up and put them in your note book also. I hope this helps.
  7. I too thought it was unfair for the supervisor to hire me with no acute care experience. I really need to work and quitting is not an option, unless something else comes available. I am going to try to give it my best; however, I am not sure if it is the right place for me.
  8. EllbellRN and MBarnBSN, Thank you for replying. I really needed to hear from someone who has experienced what I am talking about. I don't have alot of confidence and I think that this does not help the situation. We also meet with the HAT doctors and that is quite intimidating, because I don't feel I can really give much input at this point. It seems like they really value the CM's and their knowledge, and I feel like a dumb rock in those meetings. Thanks again and keep the advice coming please.
  9. I just started a new case manager job in a hospital. I will be floating to several different medical floors. In addition, I have about one year in community health case management which I feel has not really prepared me for this job. Btw, I have not worked on an acute care floor before. Frankly, I think I am in sensory overload and this is around my 5th shift. How long should orientation be on an acute care floor and how long does it usually take to feel half way proficient? Thanks for reading this and for any advice you might have for me.

  11. Hello all, I am seeking advice, and I am hoping this is where I am suppose to post. I recently had some blood work and a yearly Pap smear completed. I had an abnormal pap in 2009 and was instructed to follow-up in one year. The next pap was done in 2010 which came back normal and performed by a regular GP (I was suspicious he didn't get enough sample, maybe an unfounded fear). Anyhow, I just had a new pap done this week and the results were back today. However, the office nurse would not give me any information, because the NP had not reviewed the results yet. I don't know if I am worrying too much, because I told the nurse about my abnormal pap in 2009 and concerns. Nonetheless, she said she would call me Monday after the NP looked at the results. If the pap was normal would you have just said every thing looks okay on the pap and not to worry over the weekend or would you have not given any information at all until the NP reviews? Thanks in advance for any responses.

  13. Hello, I am interviewing for a position at an insurance company. The position is salaried and I was told the average patient load is 140-150 patients. The job entails managing the perinatal to three months postpartum patient. I am not sure what the criteria is for case managing these patients other then they are on medicaid, pregnant or have recently delivered. With the limited knowledge that I have at this time, does this sound unreasonable? In addition, I will mainly work from home; however, I will be required to go into the office at least twice per week. Furthermore, the job requires that I travel 25% of the time to meet patient's in a public area, hospital or in their home. Btw, I will be relocating from out of state for this job. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

  15. I did see something about an investigation from a few years ago. Since they are still in business I would hope they are very careful and are doing the right thing now. I have been applying to case manager positions in Atlanta, GA and this is the only place that called me back. I am sure it has something to do with me living out of state. I have only found info about this company in FL and KY and I really wish I could find how much Wellcare pays their nurses in GA. I won't consider relocating for low pay; although compensation is usually relative to the region. Thanks for the info Babyrntobe and Gatoraimslpn.
  16. Hello, Does anyone have any info about Wellcare Georgia? I have an interview with them soon. I would like to know about the pros and cons to working there. In addition, the pay since I live in another state and I don't have any idea what is fare compensation. They service Medicare and Medicaid clientele, and I would travel 25 Percent of the time to meet with the patient. Thanks for any info you can provide.
  17. I am looking more at case management positions. In companies like United, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, Well-point, etc. However, I do not know which one's are the best to work for. If someone has any advice about which one's I should apply to and which one's to steer clear of, I would appreciate it very much.

  19. Hello all, I applied to the FL BON for licensure by endorsement. I received an email today letting me know I am a newly licensed nurse in the state of Florida after only about two weeks. I am so happy and pleasantly suprised. From what I have been reading, it was suppose to take a lot longer. Is this normal? Now the tough part, finding a job.
  20. If it were me, I would take the OR position. There are always openings for travel positions in the OR. I have never seen a travel position for a Medical Aesthetics nurse. Although the Medical Aesthetics position is more laid back, the OR will give you so many skills that you can use any where in the world.
  21. to the op, i have a few questions for you. do you have performance anxiety and does this happen any other time where you are anxious and can't seem to calm down? in addition, what about nursing school, did you have anxiety during clinicals? the reason i ask this is i have had similar problems. i would be so stressed and nearly in tears when i started a new job, although i usually did fine. i would have this underlying anxiety revolving around going into work. clinicals were torture for me, and i did not perform as well as i could have. i have been going to a chiropractor who treats people for allergies. i have food allergies/sensitivities. the chiropractor used a device called a bax 3000 and bio feedback methods with muscle testing. what this tells you is the different allergies you might have to food, the environment, chemicals, neurotransmitters and your own hormones. the diagnostic tools pick up on any substances your body has sensitivity to; it can detect over 4000 sensitivities/allergies. to make a long story short, i was allergic to my own gaba. this neurotransmitter help to turn off the hormone adrenaline so that the body doesn't go into overdrive (overly anxious/anxiety attacks). if your brain is not able to use gaba (natural calmer), then adrenaline doesn't have a buffer so to speak. i hope i am making sense. it sounds complicated, but it really isn't. after treatment i am much calmer inside over all, and i don’t over think and worry as much as i use to. for instance, i had to go to a clinical site, and in the past i would have had anxiety over the top. however, although i was a little nervous, i wasn't overly anxious. i actually was a little excited about going, and that is not like me. i don't know if this is your issue, but it helped me and maybe it can help someone else to check it out. research gaba, you will find some very interesting information. p.s. some practitioners will charge you thousands of dollars before they will even assess you with their diagnostic tools. however, the chiropractor i went to charged me $135 for the initial visit (because it takes longer) and $65 per visit thereafter. if you have any questions, you can pm me.
  22. I don't post very often, but I had to give my thoughts on this one. The OP states in her original post that she is hopeless. People of faith are trying to give Lisa some hope and encouragement. What is wrong with that? Jesus said I will not leave you comfortless, I will send the comforter (Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit). The OP is receiving a lot of helpful information on this forum, I haven't read where you shot down any other advice except for about turning to God. Please don't take away any help or hope someone is trying to provide for her or any other participant on this forum. In addition, I believe America is in the state that it is in, because of this very attitude. There are so many people ending it all because they have no hope. However, many are finding hope in God and HE is pulling them through their crisis by prompting others to help in the persons time of need. Whether it be spiritual, emotional, or physical support.
  23. DeserRN2, Is that American Sentinel University (ASU)? I am in the program, and I think it is a pretty good school. I have 3 more classes to finish and I will have my BSN. It is CCNE accredited. My husband was in the military a long time ago, so I was able to get the military discount. I have found ASU to be one of the cheaper schools to attend for the RN-BSN program. It is out of Aurora, Colorado.
