Nurses: Failure rate of courses perplexing - Jackson Clarion Ledger
What questions were too hard, for example? I want to understand better what you are talking about because nursing classes are very hard anyway and should be. The responsibility and liability you are undertaking is great. I am just trying to gauge wether the instructors are really being unfair or if the students are just very under prepared, and I don't mean that in an offensive manor, many students are under prepared for even simple college courses thanks to our school systems and so forth.

Nurses: Failure rate of courses perplexing - Jackson Clarion Ledger
As I said at the end of my first post there needs to qualified instructors, not yo yo's. If the instructor is not giving instruction then you should go to the dean of the nursing school or the college and file a complaint. Go as a group if you need to, that is the one agravation with nursing is it seems like we can't stand together for the greater good of our selves and our profession. What the instructor is allegedly doing is not right and does not qualify as a qualified instrucor in my mind.

To move to MO, or not to move....
I worked for 2 years at ssm facility in Lake st. louis, smaller but growing hospital and loved it. I worked at st.johns mercy medical and didn't like it too much, but I think it depends on the type of hospital you are looking for, sjmm is huge compared to st joseph west. I came back to st louis from Coon Rapids MN and the pay rates are considerably less in st.louis. The housing market is considerably cheaper than some areas of MN and Wis. Taxes, well that depends we found that st charles county wasn't that much cheaper than coon rapids area, they just took the taxes out of different areas so do some checking through the city websites if possible to see what property tax rates are and in most cities you will pay personal property tax as well. Most communities are very nice in the burbs, I don't recommend the city area but thats just me. hope this helps a little.

Nurses: Failure rate of courses perplexing - Jackson Clarion Ledger
I have an associates degree in nursing. I took my program in Minnesota, and it was the same as you are describing you had to be in class and in clinicals , no questions asked. We had one instructor who if a classmate had issues as you described her reply was "you can always drop out" They had high expectations and we lost about 25 people from start to finish. It was very difficult at times I had 2 children in elementary school at the time, but it was worth it they have a 95 % passing rate on the NClex exam. Some of the students that failed out or quit should have they had no business being there and others didn't have the drive to get through and with 1 in 7 nurses quiting the profession I believe every year due to stress, we need people who can stick it out and have the drive and love of their chosen profession. In regard to teachers, there def. needs to be better pay and benefits of qualified instructors. I don't want to have some yo yo teaching or someone who isn't totally present teaching future nurses, a nurse can make or break your experience in the hospital as well as save your life or kill you.

The Circumcision Discussion
As nurses when working it is not our job to try and change someones mind about a procedure, or any healthcare decision. It is however our duty to present the facts and support our patients and families so they can make an informed decision about their healthcare. I agree to try and force your opinion on someone because you don't agree or like it is very unethical as well as very unprofessional!!!!!!

The Circumcision Discussion
I did not circ my son, he is 6 months old. So, far we have had no problems. I did research before he was born, as well as my husband did not want it to be done. The american cancer society states that they do not endorse circ for cancer preventative as well as the CDC does not support circ for prevention of hiv or any other sexually transmitted disease. according to the websites. Why do we support circ of males and not of females they are equally barbaric, and so far I see no evidence to support the practice other than religious, and " my husband is"

Do you like Minnesota?
I don't know anything about Mn drunk driving stuff that sounds to me like every where I have been. I am not a Minnesotan and many things about minnesotans drove me bonkers when I lived there, however, my taxes, property taxes and gas and food and license for vehicles ect is a little higher in St. charles county in Mo which shocked the heck out me... because I thought we were being taxed to death in Mn for the liberal ideals that most Minnesotans have thats one. The other is I had to take a pay cut to come back to Missouri and so did my husband and with the cost of living being very similar and higher in some respects my quality of life was better in MN. thats what I mean by quality of life..... I don't live and die Minnesota , I heard that up there by many you would think it was the only place on earth that existed that God shown a light on that is not what I mean at all.........

Do you like Minnesota?
I lived in MN for 7 years and I wanted to leave and come back to Missouri where I am from because I thought I was being moneyd to death with taxes ect. I came back to Mo and my quality of life is way less than it was in MN and I didn't and still don't take handouts. My husband is an Engineer and I am an RN and I would go back to MN in a minute if I could and may at some point.
