Since no one here had heard of this online dnp program, I went ahead and emailed the assistant director of program. This is the response I got: Yes our on-line DNP program is in the marketing stages. We are in the final stages of approvals. We expect to launch our DNP program in January 2011. As for the pain management aspect: the DNP will offer two tracks of study to chose from. Patient safety and Pain management. The initial offerings for pain will be within the DNP program. The Certificate in pain management will be offered at a later point in time for CRNAs who do not qualify or who do not want to engage in the DNP program. The test page went up last week. we are working with our consultants to link it to the UNE website. If you are interested. Please go back to the link and submit your information and you will be sent information. So there it is. It does seem that they should have established the links on the website before starting to advertise...I'm just saying.

I finished two years ago and borrowed just for my tuition which was $50,000. I probably spent another $60K over 3 years on everything else. And that was living cheap.

I'm already a nurse anesthetist. I did not think that I could become a CRNA online. I was simply asking if anyone had any information regarding a DNP program that I saw advertised.

I have recently seen some advertisements online advertising an online program at the University of New England for a DNP in Anesthesia. Does anyone have any information regarding this program? I might consider getting my doctorate if I could do most of it online.

In clinicals today, a CRNA asked me about the significance of an arterial cascade pattern. I had never heard of this and I'm having trouble finding information on it. He was describing it as an up and down variation in the height of the arterial waveform. Does anyone know anything about this? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

The hospital where I work has two different concentrations of Dopamine. 400mg/250cc is for peripheral use. We usually use 800mg/250cc...double strength to be used in central lines only.

Frankly, I push undiluted Ativan into central lines all the time. I've never had any problems. The key, however, is to draw it up with an 18G needle.

I have two favorites from when I travelled: Bridge Staffing-the only agency I worked for where my recruiter actually called me weekly to check on me and see how I was doing. Global RN-pay was always correct. They never tried to get me to share an apt or car. Some will...

I've been doing this gig for about 12 yrs now...and my vote is definitely no. I understand that the family is concerned about their family member. I do all I can to keep them update. But, if the patient is critically ill, then he needs intensive care...which does not mean the family is at the bedside 24/7 keeping the pt from resting and/or interfering with the nurse's care of that pt.

I do have a special report sheet that I made up on my computer, primarily for the reason that our unit went to computer charting and we no longer have a flow sheet. It just has basic info: Md's, DX, HX, Lines, IVF's, Labs, Vent settings, CT's, drains and there is a place to keep up with frequent accuchecks and output. The only way I can seem to manage my time well is to have a tight routine and stick to it. I get report, immediately go in and assess the patient, and then come straight out and chart it. If you don't get your stuff done before all of the white coats get there and start writing orders and asking questions...you'll never catch up. Hope that helps.

Most ridiculous thing I've ever seen was a pt...BM mid-40's came in bright and early one morning. Chief Complaint: "I slept with a crack 'ho last night." (Not to mention the fact that he looked like he'd been smoking some.) No lie...Ladies and Gentleman, that's our tax dollars at work right there.

Fluorescent Light Therapy- for those pt's who call the ambulance to pick them up for something stupid and who swear they absolutely cannot find a ride home, hoping that the hospital will come off with a FREE taxi voucher. Well, our hospital is very stingy with the taxi vouchers and rightly so...imagine!! So, we discharge them and send them to the waiting room for a little "fluorescent light therapy." It's amazing how effective that is for pt's...after a while they all seem to be able to find a ride home.

A pulmonary artery rupture is a very rare thing! I've been an ICU nurse for thirteen years and I've never seen that happen. It's just one of those freaky complications that can very rarely occur...not the the nurse did anything wrong. I am very comfortable with Swan Ganz caths. We look at the morning CXR's and the waveforms are always key in knowing whether or not your line is in the proper position. And then sometimes when you inflate the balloon, you feel a little resistance. My advice is don't ever force it.

No worries! I thought they might be a little similar, but I in no way expected them to be exactly the same. I know that there were different interviewers here in Jackson. Williams didn't interview. All of my interviewers were on staff at UMC except for one. I had the chief of Anesthesia and another anesthesiologist. And, then I had 2 CRNA's on staff there. I'm not sure where the other guy was from...maybe UAB. I can't remember his name. Anyway, I hope Mobile is a little easier for those guys. This was just brutal.

Hey, guys! Just wanted to send a quick update, especially for those of you who are going to be interviewing in March. I had my interview with UAB today. It was nothing at all like I expected. And, according to what I've heard from those who interviewed in B'ham...completely different. I arrived at 0830 and we immediately started the interviews. We finished at 1200. I literally was walking to my car at noon. I had five separate interviews: two with MDA's, three with CRNA's. My first interview was pretty much thirty minutes of the dude grilling me on clinical stuff with a little bit of "why do you want to do this?" thrown in. On a whole, three of the five had clinical questions, one with political/future of anesthesia questions. Holy cow!! What an experience! I pretty much felt like a limp noodle when that was over. Then they were talking about reducing the number of students that they accept at the Jackson site. From ten to maybe six or eight!! So, who knows? They will be mailing the letters out this next friday. Wish me luck!!

Hi, everyone! I'm from Jackson, MS and I have my interview with UAB for grad school this weekend. Is there anyone who has already interviewed at B'ham that can tell me what to expect? I have a friend who interviewed last year, who said they didn't ask him a single clinical question. I've heard some weird things: like them making us write an essay, playing games and if you mess up they ask you a clinical question??? I'm not sure if ANY of this is true. Also, I've heard rumors that this may be the last year for the Jackson clinical site. Anyone else heard that? Any help is appreciated!!
