it's been a week
It is hard to tell, sometimes suprevisors can just get busy, maybe a friendly "what's up" call may be in order . . . say you just wanted to make sure that there wasn't anything additional that she needs from you . . . . that may help you get a handle on what the situation is.

Which way to go?
I am just sending the message up again to see if I can get any advice. . .thanks!

Epidurals
Your friend's DH could benefit from the knowledge of some OB nurses! Another great thing about epidurals with your first baby is the concept of "laboring down" . . .letting the contractions bring the baby a station or two down on their own without pushing. If you do have an epidural this can save you some major pushing work. Yes, and by all means let the lady decide what she wants, just keep her educated as to what the risks and benefits are, and having her talk to her OB and an anesthesiologist, and perhaps some more non interventional professionals would be the best way!

Doula
I totally agree, when the doula with one of my patients told me that I said, "Can they do that?" and she said yes, apparently they can.

Which way to go?
Thanks, go get some sleep!

Birth control same time everyday?
Yikes! I hope not! I am on the any time of day, sometimes two pills every two days plan myself! I know it was more important when I was on the "mini pill" while breastfeeding, but so far so good!

How hard do you work to remove all vernix?
I think each nurse views it differently, and it probably goes along with hospital procedures as well. Personally I definitely remove it from the face and as much from the body when we are stimulating for the respriations initially. I leave the rest for bath time.

Which way to go?
Hello all, I am fairly new to the boards, I am a L and D nurse with about 5 years exerience, and an additional 3 years in Med Surg Oncology. Right now I live in the D.C. area, I am a military wife and mom to two preschoolers. I am working PRN, very few hours. I wanted to take this time while I was not working so much to further my education. I am thinking along many different lines and not sure which way to go. Obtain RNC for impatient obstetrics? (I have been searching for a reading list) Perhaps doula certification (If I really think about it I probably lean more towards non intervention in the birthing process, but right now I am rather limited by the practice of the doctors that are at my hospital) Perhaps a Master's Degree of some sort . . . . I am interested in the computer systems that we use to chart and would love to be involved in revamping them or making them user friendly . . .is there a degree for that? I would love to be a midwife, but I know right now I don't want to devote the time to actually being a midwife, I would love to have the knowledge base, but don't want to be working full time. I know I would get very attached to my patients and spend lots of time away from my family to assist in their deliveries. ANY advice or comments would be very helpful, thanks! Kristina

Doula
What a great thing . . .most doulas around here are not looked on favorably. I guess there was an incident where a doula was performing cervix checks and the hospital was very upset and banned them at one place. When I was doing army nursing and so many of the guys were away there were a lot of doulas hired to be support, I thought that was wonderful for those women.
