Hi, I work in PA, I work 50/50 chronic/Acute we cover three hospitals and there are three of us acute nurses. We are on call every third weekend Fri, Sat, Sun. We get $25 a day for carring the pager, double time for holidays and we are scheduled 4 10 hour days a week, we are not scheduled to work the weekend just on call. But, every weekend we get called out (so this is overtime). If we get called out it is an automatic $100 bonus on top of our overtime, if we get called out again we get another $100 bonus, for instance today I had 3 bonuses and all overtime because I already had my 40 hours in for the week. I knew yestarday that I would be working because of the patients that where admitted. Also, if we are out two hours after our scheduled time to quit which is 1600, we get another $100 bonus. I really lucked out finding this job you can make some good money.

i am employed as an acute and chronic hemodialysis nurse. i work 50/50 chronic and acute. i do make more money due to the fact that i do acutes. at my place of employment we are scheduled for 4, 10 hour days. we have an acute team which includes 2 other nurses and myself. we cover three different hospitals and are on call every 3rd weekend which includes, friday, saturday and sunday. we are lucky and work for an excellent company. we are scheduled 4 days during the week when we are on call. that means that if we are called out on saturday or sunday we are paid overtime and also receive a bonus for each patient. so if we get called out for two different patients we get 2 bonuses.... and so on. my point is that you can really make good money doing acutes. we also receive a bonus if we are still out two hours after our scheduled quitting time. this is whether we are on call or not. so to answer your question i like to mix it up and work both, acutes can be break from the unit and a little slower paced, unless of course you have problems with a catheter or bp problems and so on. sorry so long.

I did take the position and working 4 10's , I work half chronic unit , half acutes. I agree it is an owesome company and the staffing is unreal comparted to where I worked before (a for profit co.) at DCI they provide enough staff to ensure a safe treatment for all patients. I am very glad that I took the position.

I am located near pittsburgh, pa the pay they offered is $23.00/hr. I did tour the facility very nice compared to where I am working now. What is your nurse ratio? Do you work 4 ten hr days?

hi, i graduated in may of this year and am working on a med/surg/pediatric/tele floor. it is a 40 bed unit. nurse to pt ratio is usually 9,10,11. our patients are mostly hips and knees, turps, appys, cardiac, with pediatrics thrown in. we do have lpn's and na's but usually only two of each. the lpn's pass all the p.o. meds and the na's do take the vitals. the majority of the patients are orthopedics and when they come from surgery they have strykers, femoral blocks, pca pumps and usually autology blood to hang. not to mention the tele patients. is this a high nurse to pt ratio or is it that i am just too new. the other day when i came out of report i had two new admissions in the same room, 1 going for an appy, and one a medical patient, 1 fresh post-op knee and 1 fresh post-op hip, 1 going for a turp and none of the or paperwork was done or started, a 14 yr old that surgery the day before for a fractured humerus and was having symptoms of compartment syndrome, oh and of course the patient that was confused and climbing out of bed constantly, and 5 more patients that was just hanging out. now i know that i am not a seasoned nurse but, how in the world can one person be in all those places at one time. i feel this is not safe..... or is this the way it should be? and this is an everyday occurance these kinds of patients. oh and i forgot to the patient that was having continuous seizures and i had to hang iv depokote stat. signed thanks for listening
