  1. :typingJust took the ANCC MedSurg certificate exam on Feb, 2nd. It's not hard at all. I was surprised. This is a computer based exam. 175 questions totally and the first 25 doesn't count for the score. You have 3 and half hours to finish all of them and you will know your score as soon as you finish the exam. The passing score is 350. I believe that if you've been working in MedSurg for at least 2years, you won't have problem to pass the exam even though you don't have time to review. I used a book for med-surg certificate which one of my colleagues used 10years ago when she took the exam. I didn't finish the whole book though since it's so boring to read. I was also using the CD for NCLEX from Saunder's. But after the exam, I found that what they asked is much different from what I prepared. Instead of testing your knowledge about disease, they asked a lot of questions about foundations of nursing, Legal and ethical aspects,Therapeutic communications. Anyway, don't be afraid of it. They want us to pass otherwise, nobody will willing to take it anymore.
  2. I work in a small private hospital in brooklyn in NY. the ratio is from 6:1 to 10:1 depends on how many RNs we have that day. It's a med-surg unit.
  3. Hi, I am going to the Med-surg. So happy that there's someone is working in Allen Pavilion. Yes, I am also worried about the size of this hospital. It's small comparied to the Lutheran medical center.
  4. Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention that it's 12 hours night shift, so I won't be in dark, hehe. But you are right, constraction always happens at night and weekends. The Allen Pavilion is farther though, more than 1 hour by train. Presbyterian is the best one in Newyork as I heard. But I am not sure about the Allen Pavilion since it's only a small affiliated hospital of Presbyterian.:trout:
  5. I got offer from two hospitals, couldn't make the decision for which one is better for me. Please give me some tips: 1. Lutheran Medical Center, night shift. Lutheran is a 600 beds community hospital in Brookly which is 30mins by train from my home. 2. The Allen Pavilion of New York Presbyterian Hospital.day shift. This is a 250 beds hospital affiliated to Presbyterian.
  6. I was in China, was at work. It's evening in China. A colleague called me and asked me turn on the TV. I thought she was crazy, but i saw the most crazy and terrible thing on TV that night. Couldn't imagin that 5 years later, I came here in NYC, I went to the Ground Zero...
  7. I worked in med-surg for around 1 year now, can I take the exam? For the certification, is it useful for our career?
  8. oh, forgot to say, yes i have license in China.
  9. "Ni hao" JonRNMD;) Yes, i finished the nursing education in China, Bachelor's Degree. I felt upset so for waiting for such a long time.
  10. Yes I am sure the NYSED got everything they need 4 months ago. I called them many times actually. First, they said they had a backlog. Then they sent me a letter to ask me to explain something. It took me around 20 days to get the letter. :angryfire Why couldn't they send it by both email and letter. After that, they send some documents in my application to be translated. Don't know why do they need a translation since everything is in English. Talked to my agency today. They said will find me a job before I take the NCLEX. Make me feel better now. Thank you Suzanne to move my post to international forum. I tought about it today but couldn't do it:p . And thank you Starbin to give helpful suggestions.
  11. Ding:) Hope more ppl who visit this web can see my post.
  12. Yes, Suzanne4 is right.I will get the green card after arriving NY soon. CGRNS sent the letter to NYSED in Oct. 2005.
  13. I am so upset just now. Just called NYSED to check my application status. They said still need a couple of weeks for them to get through my application. I've been waiting for it for around 6 months. Before apply for this, I got the CVS from CGFNS. But ppl in NYSED told me that they didn't belive CGFNS and still need to re-evaluate my education background. It's it sound wired!!:angryfire I've got the visa to go to US and the expired date of visa is 8th next month. So I have to leave for NY soon. But what if I couldn't take NCLEX soon? My agenct said I won't be albe to live in the free dorm they provide if I couldn't take NCLEX in one month after the arriving and I won't be albe to work either. Any one have the same problem? Or how long it takes you to get the ATT?
  14. Thanks NJNursing. It's quite good. waiting for your two pages following messages:)
  15. the internet speed is so slow today. Hi everyone, there is a question from Saunder's NCLEX Review A client has just returned to a nursing unit after an above-the-knee amputation of the right leg.A nurse places the client in which of the following most appropriate positions? A, Supine with the stump flat on the bed B, Supine with the stump supported with pillows C,reverse Trendelenburg D,prone The answer is B, but I got confused. If the stump was elevated by pillows, wouldn't the hip flexion contractures happen? Why don't just elevate the end of the bed? Please help.
