Newman University CRNA 2023
I would love it if a current Newman student would pop on here and discuss the different clinical site situation. I wonder if there are disadvantages or subpar experiences for students who end up at the clinical sites in Oklahoma vs. staying in Wichita? Good luck you applying this cycle! I'm rooting for you all!

LEAP Certificate Pathway Summer 2021
@iamnursemya or any of the other nurses who are completing this first year of the LEAP Pathway, I am curious about the process of acceptance to the affiliated programs. The LEAP site says each affiliated CRNA program will enroll at least 2 LEAP students. Do you rank your school choice? Do you apply to all of the ones you want and compete for the spots against your LEAP cohort? How does this part of it work? I will definitely consider application to LEAP if I don't get in on my first application cycle but there are only two or three schools that are affiliates that I would want to attend. Second question, did you take loans for your tuition for the program or do you have to pay outright? Congratulations on finishing your certificate, it's such a cool program and I am glad to see the first cohort posting positively about it here.

Is it frowned upon to take prerequisites at an online university?
I have never heard that it is frowned upon. I am not familiar with American Military University but have been taking classes at a number of the other schools that you reference. All those UC extension schools actually do both online and in person, and then the transcript doesn't say whether or not it was online or in person. UNE and Johns Hopkins too. One that I am pretty sure is an all online school is Portage. That one I have heard some schools may not accept credits from but I think that is the only one of the commonly named ones in the CSPA community on FB that gets iffy. Good luck! Thank you for your service. I'm sure you know, but in case not, National University was founded by veterans and they have an amazing program. And if you were interested, the CRNA programs that are associated with the military are free and pay a stipend while you attend in exchange for service.

Based on current experience, is it worth reapplying?
I wonder if you might be able to private message me loveanesthesia? I don't have privileges to direct message anyone yet and I have a question for you if you have time. JMo, to discuss your situation. I hope I don't discourage you because I believe it's absolutely within your grasp to be accepted into CRNA school someday. But because CRNA school itself is so hard and requires non-negotiable commitment and focus, you will need to show equal commitment and focus to becoming a SRNA. You say it's always been your dream, but your career focus definitely shifted away from that goal. I've never heard of any school who would accept applicants from an ancillary department like that. If your dream school requires GRE, then you must take it. If your school requires current full-time ICU, then you must be currently employed full-time in ICU. Maybe try a fast-paced SICU, Trauma ICU, or CVTICU with high turnover, that's the sort of unit that helps keep me from burnout personally. You didn't mention leadership stats, but having preceptor/committee membership, etc. is important too and you should be an ICU team member to get that. What about PICU? Most schools won't take NICU but PICU is often accepted and could show you expanding and getting out of your comfort zone and could give you an edge on pediatric portions in anesthesia school. Again, for me, learning a new field also keeps me out of the burnout zone. I wouldn't move into PICU though unless you feel like you mastered adult ICU and took all the hardest patients with lots of vasoactive gtts and vents, nailed ICU pathophys and pharm, and can speak to all the CCRN type questions that might be in a CRNA school interview. Anyway, schools usually have pretty thorough details about their requirements listed on their websites; I would make sure you meet all of them and even meet their "suggestions" to give yourself more of a competitive edge next time. I would also shadow CRNAs and try to meet CRNAs in your shadow experience who went to your dream school. Network as much as possible. I recommend a free podcast with excellent info called CRNA School Prep Academy. There is also a huge private FB community associated with that Academy called ICU Dreaming About Anesthesia. It's an incredibly supportive and inspiring community. It has made a huge difference for me, giving me so much more drive and focus on my personal journey. My previous plan to application was going to cost so much more money and take more time. Good luck to you, I hope you go for it.

Advice on applications?
I suggest joining the FB group ICU Dreaming About Anesthesia. Then joining their CRNA Prep Academy. They mentor people through the process and get excellent results, it’s totally legit. There are faculty members who mentor and you can pay for their time for a transcript review. There is also an awesome podcast by the same folks. I can’t recommend it enough. Other paid services should be resume review, mock interviews. There are tons of free educational rescources and CEs within the Prep Acadeny once you join too. Another suggestion is to contact your top three schools and ask for a transcript review and what you can do to make yourself as competitive as possible. I don’t think you have much to worry about, but the 3.2 and the one Biochem grade *might* be an issue with some programs so you really will benefit from their advice at this stage too. Go for it!!

CRNA program RE-applicants 2021 start
Fluffy, and anyone else here who is working on improving their application, be sure to join CRNA Prep Academy and join their free facebook group: ICU Dreaming About Anesthesia. They have LOADS of good resources for mentoring members through application. Mock interviews, transcript review, resume review, etc. Tons of clinical education opportunities, Q&A's and they do have AACN C.E.'s offerings also. There is also an excellent podcast by the same name. They get results, they are totally legit, and even have program faculty members who work as mentors. I wish I would have found them long ago.
