Definitely not like that. A car is an asset that you can sell for money. A $10,000 penalty is a penalty and in a lot of these contacts there is no bonus received.

HCA has this penalty in place without scholarships or bonuses. I've also received long orientations without having to worry about paying a penalty for leaving

Thanks for your comments, JKL. The other issue is the monopoly in the region. Not everyone can afford to relocate so your options are limited in avoiding these contracts and you have limited options as a new graduate without experience.

Your 2 year contract starts after your residency which is around 3 months long.

I understand how you feel, I been working on med-surg between 6-12 months and I can relate to most of what you are saying. It sounds like you are surviving at work so I would keep going! Personally, I am staying at this job to further my own goals. I try to ignore what other people are saying if it’s negative. I was being evaluated during my orientation period but after that I realized it didn’t matter what people said anymore. I have a few coworkers that spread drama and negativity but it’s not worth my energy to entertain it. If there is a serious problem, the manager will bring it up and that hasn’t happened to me. If there is a question or something like that I address it and move on. No time to wallow. My plan is to get a better job but I know I need to stay at this one for 2 years to be marketable. I floated to ICU step down and enjoyed it more. I’m planning my job transitions slowly.

Yes and before that you get a one month prep class where you watch computer modules. Makes no sense to me.

There’s a designated length of time for all nurse residents... it doesn’t change. On med surg it’s 5 weeks but you take patients during this time and you can have preceptors that don’t help you so it is basically the same as being a nurse on the floor.

I’m in the same. boat. My advice is to get another job at the end of the 2 years. I could be wrong but I think this company does not treat their nurses so well. If that doesn’t work out for me, I’m going into community nursing/doctors office type work. Did that once before and it honestly wasn’t so bad.
