  1. The first week is not on the floor, it's a whole bunch of education about nursing specific to Kaiser and how things work. You do go to the hospital floor as well to see the unit/familiarize yourself with the hospital, but you don't start shadowing until the second week.
  2. The person I spoke with confirmed that the first two weeks will be either days or evenings (no night shift) 40 hours a week, and then we will transition into our hired schedule afterwards.
  3. I talked to someone and they said that there are no specialty placements being offered to any of the nurse residents because all spots were taken by Kaiser employees first. I feel like it's a bit of a bait and switch.
  4. I guess we aren't hearing from them today ?
  5. Generally most schedules seem to be for working weekends one week and not the next. For example, if the schedule looks something like week 1 "Tues Wed Sat" week 2 "Sun Mon Thu Fri", you get the weekend off every other week. It helped me think about it if you put it all together in a continuous schedule- Tues Wed Sat Sun Mon Thu Fri Tues Wed Sat Sun Mon Thu Fri etc etc. So you are working Tuesday and Wednesday, get two days off, work the weekend and Monday, get two days off, then Thursday Friday, then get the weekend and Monday off. And then it just repeats indefinitely.
  6. Yes I'm guessing the same email! It says we'll hear back next week about the specific position. My interpretation is yes, but it's up to us if we accept what they offer us or not
  7. OMG check your emails guys! I literally just got an email saying I got a position!
  8. For me they just asked questions about your resume or powerpoint. So not like the formal interview questions, but more clarifying.
  9. Those who have interviewed already, was there any chance to ask questions to the recruitment team?
  10. Aw my first choice was Santa Clara but I got an interview for the East Bay haha! It's too bad we couldn't have ranked our choices so they could give us interviews based on preference. Maybe if we both get the job we can switch Fremont/Santa Clara hahaha
  11. Same! Congrats! Does this mean we are only interviewing for one group?
  12. In the Webinar they said this was the first time they would be offering limited positions in ICU, L&D, and OR if there were spots available. They said "candidates will indicate preferences and position details will be identified at time of offer." I'm just wondering when/where we indicate preferences
  13. I didn't see a section to put our preferences for specialty units/medsurge/telemetry on the career snapshot. Did I miss it or do we input our preferences somewhere else?
  14. Thanks for making the forum! Good luck!
  15. Yes, if you get accepted they will change your major. In my acceptance email they said, "If you've already received the university's offer and accepted the offer into a different major, we will have it changed to nursing on your behalf." And you should only accept the alternate if that is something you want to pursue. Unless they emailed you something about needing to do something to stay on the waitlist, you will remain in the running regardless of if you accepted the alternate choice or not.
  16. Unfortunately I think that that may disqualify you for this round. When I was applying I talked to an admissions counselor at SFSU and they said that all prereqs must be completed before submitting the application. So since I was applying for Spring start, they said that all prereqs were due by the end of Summer semester. This may have changed though, so I'd recommend getting in contact with a counselor to get an up-to-date overview of the application process
  17. Yes, I got into a state school as well and I ultimately decided that I could not justify the extra 85k to attend SMU over a CSU. Definitely a lot of soul searching. I'm sad that I won't be meeting all of you lovely people at Samuel Merritt, but maybe our paths will cross in our future nursing careers ?
  18. I neither declined nor accepted my offer, and I received an email today that my spot will be forfeited if I don't pay the deposit by the end of the day today. I have ultimately decided to not attend Samuel Merritt, so my spot will be available tomorrow, as will anyone else's spot who also didn't decline or accept. So hopefully tomorrow there will be multiple people who get off of the waitlist.
  19. It just changed to nursing today ? Thanks though!
  20. Hey guys, has anyone accepted the offer of admission yet? I'm not quite sure how to go about doing that. In the student center it just shows my alternate major. Also for everyone on the waitlist, I'm rooting for you! You should be hearing by shortly after December 1. They said in my email that, "The deadline to accept the offer on the student portal is December 1, 2020. After Deadline, we will offer the available spots to waitlisted candidates."
  21. I guess mostly because SFSU is such a big school that doesn't seem to have as much resources as SMU does for its nursing program. And it seems like SMU has more people working to try and help you succeed. Although honestly I don't know as much about SFSU as I do about SMU because SFSU does not put out as much information, and I was never able to visit due to coronavirus. I believe that class sizes are smaller at SMU as well.
  22. Do any of you have thoughts on Samuel Merritt vs SFSU? I am leaning towards SFSU because of the cost, but I am more mixed on the other factors.
  23. I was very nervous going in to this application cycle because I have failed classes before. I also have many Ws on my transcript. So I want to say to anyone who is in my situation that retaking classes really does help. My prerequisite GPA, if you just include the best grade in each class, was a 4.0. However, I did have to retake two of those (non-science) prerequisites, so if they included those failing grades my GPA would much much be lower. I also had over 1000 hours as a CNA, 2 excellent recommendation letters from a science professor and my Director of Nursing from work, and experience as a teaching assistant. I think that explaining my situation and passion for nursing in the essays also really helped my case. I am not sure if I will be attending SMU though. I also just received an acceptance to SFSU. I am leaning towards attending SFSU because of the cost, but I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this? Is Samuel Merritt a better school than SFSU?
