Does your OR have an educator?
Hi linda! I still can't figure out what this is all about.......is an "Educator" a "Practitioner"? Sorry, have to get this straight.

Oh well, I tried..........
Really sorry to hear but unfortunately it's not rare. What does the "CVOR" stand for? I wonder what your Director would say if there weren't any nurses around, that is considering that we are a" liability"..........I'll tell you a story. My OR received a very experienced surgeon from another hospital and immediately became a Director of one of the depts. We did our homework and picked up a phone and made some inquiries. Turns out, that at his former hospital ,his conduct was such that all the scrub nurses signed a petition that they wouldn't scub in any of his cases. He soon left the OR and came to us. On his first day,our Chief OR Nurse told him not to unpack his suitcase if he even considered continuing on with his past behavior. Put it down on paper. As we say "choose your battles". Good luck. Win.

Management or Education in the OR?
Hi! I can't say that *I know your system in depth, but if you'll choose management, you'll probably find yourself behind a desk and dealing with lots of papers................ On the other hand, perhaps the office will be located in the OR?! LOL. Education sounds more to where you are heading at this point. Leave the managerial side for a couple of years and learn the profession. The more experience you gain as an OR Nurse will give you better insight and tools to work with later on. Good luck.

Tiffany, congratulations on your pregnancy. You must look out for yourself. Others can and will move the patients and you shouldn't be working with anything radioactive, etc. I won't even go into the x-rays etc. Yes,this time is special and will require others to cooperate more and lend a hand. We also have nurses that from the minute that they understand that they are pregnant, they use their pregnancy as an excuse for "not doing". That too,is an extreme and as we say "pregnancy isn't an illness". Take care and the part of this that I didn't like was that you are also "spotting" etc. Concerning your vacation time, try and work it out amicably. If they are smart, they should have someone on call to replace you,if need be.- OK who else is dealing with Universal Protocol?
Where can I obtain a copy of the new protocol?- Scrub nurses
Yes,you do indeed need to learn how to scrub and manage an operation from the table. True,in many places in the USA,the two are separated and you'll only circulate. "Knowing " the operation can only really be done if you are on the table. A good circulating nurse is an excellent scrub nurse. Go for it.- Laparoscopic Procedures-boredom?
Thanks for your reply...............nothing new under the sun but I do need a little help here! Karnit- Laparoscopic Procedures-boredom?
Hi to all. Have been working in the OR for the past 30 years, mostly as a clinical practitioner and for the last 4 years as chief staff nurse in charge of General Surgery at my hospital. I love open surgery. The lap.procedures ,for most part, are active ,when it comes to the surgeons............as for the nurses, well,I find them a bit boring. Staring at the screen and from time to time, handing over an instrument doesn't "do" it for me.Most of the nurses ask for chairs after the first half hour of the procedure. The larger procedures,colonal-rectal are long, tedious and after several hours, everyone wakes up because the patient has to be opened. How do we keep ourselves involved,interested-any suggestions would really be appreciated! Karnit - Pregnant and no one seems to have any compassion.
