No problem! I just wanted to mention I was speaking to one of my friends who is also going to be working as a new grad at Providence in the ED (not the one at Mission Hospital, though), and she was told me that they told her they don't have a uniform in the ED-- asked her to wear whatever colored scrub pants she likes and a Providence approved t-shirt. I don't want to lead you astray in the uniform since I'll be on ortho, so it might be different on my unit.

Yeah, I asked my supervisor who is super helpful. I was told we buy our own scrubs and to make sure they're Royal Blue. They previously embroidered the side of their scrub tops to have something like "Providence RN" but are no longer having that on the uniforms (it sounds like they may have supplied the scrubs to employees back then). Side note: Would anyone happen to know if there's a weekend differential?

Can confirm for Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. This was the amount I was also offered and was also told it was non-negotiable.

@tmht I haven't yet reached back out! There was a post (linked below) on a new grad facebook group that I follow where someone else went through the same thing, so I was hoping Mission Viejo was just a bit slower to their send official letters compared to the other Providences around! Edit: The message gave me hope, but I was getting worried because I haven't finished nursing school yet, so I was fearing that maybe they found out they cannot accept people who are planning on taking the NCLEX in January (before the program's start date) ?

Hi everyone, Congratulations on being accepted! I see some people are mentioning Mission, is this the hospital in Mission Viejo or Mission Hills? I received a call from Mission Viejo's location about 10 days ago they were planning on hiring me and that I was going to be contacted about a formal offer in about a week. I haven't received that offer yet and am seeing people from Mission mention that they have received one, so I'm getting a little nervous. Edit: Also, if everyone is talking about Mission Viejo, does anyone know if ICU was an available position? I don't believe I saw it on the list, but I was also trying to be fast on picking which unit I wanted, so I can see myself overlooking it!

Crossing my fingers!! ? @Ashley Symone You're right, unfortunately, many ABSN programs seem quite pricey! The only ideal priced schools I've seen so far are the state schools in California! Thank you so much for the great resource! I will absolutely be checking it out and tweak my plan accordingly!! Here's my current game plan: -Study for about 1-2 hours per day, 1.5-2 months before taking the test. - For study material I'll probably use these 2 books (if you copy and paste them into Amazon, they'll pop up!): Book 1: ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition Book 2: ATI TEAS 6 Study Guide: Spire Study System and ATI TEAS VI Test Prep Guide with ATI TEAS Version 6 Practice Test Review Questions for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, 6th edition - After reading through both books, find TEAS practice tests that I can use to highlight where I need to study more. - Read up on the areas I didn't do as well in, then take another practice tests. Repeat this step until I feel confident taking the test. I want to complete at least 5 practice tests before I officially take the test! All that said to also say...hopefully we get into USF, and don't have to take the TEAS! ??

@Ashley Symone I live in Southern California, and I really hope you get into USF b/c I know California will gladly welcome you! Those are great schools! A school on the east coat that I've been hesitantly looking at is Johns Hopkins Uni (not sure if they'd even accept me), but I'm still on the fence b/c I'm not sure I could be as brave as you to move to another state! I'm planning on taking the TEAS in August or September since (although I haven't been able to figure out when the 2020 deadline to apply is, based on last year's November 30th deadline) I'm assuming the deadline will be November 30th again. This way, if I completely bomb the first time I take the test, I'll have enough time to study again and reschedule/retake the test! I've also begun been looking at ABSN schools, so taking the test in August/September will allow me to apply to CSULA (they require TEAS as well), whose deadline is also November 30th! Have you looked into any ABSN programs?

@Ashley Symone I may be biased, but I think our expectations were very good! ? By the way, what other schools are you planning on applying to? ?

I had seen on Charles Drew’s website that they weren’t waiving it, but I didn’t know they were allowing you to take it at home! That’s pretty helpful! Side note: Y’all, I was SO hopeful they’d waive it!

I agree, although MSN would be my preferred route, I want to keep my options open. It’s great that you have a job lined up for once you’re done with nursing school! I would be super proud of myself if I was in your spot and I’m sure you’ll be a fantastic Neonatal NP!! Are you planning on going straight into an NP program after you finish your MSN or working as an RN first?

@PagingNurseTerri Definitely! It opened my eyes to different ways to pay for school. And I have just started looking into Accelerated BSN programs! Yes, they thankfully do take FAFSA! It must feel good to know that they really believe in you! Are you planning on staying with them once you finish the MSN program? But yes, I’m sure they will see how much you shine in other areas!

@PagingNurseTerri Yes! My mom had her ADN, but was required to go back to school to get her BSN (the hospital she worked at generously payed for it!), so sometimes I wonder whether getting a BSN, then getting an MSN (if the place I work at would have a similar option to pay for the MSN tuition) would be a better option cost-wise. But after weighing my options, I think going straight to MSN is the better choice. By the way, how are you planning on covering tuition? I have some money I've saved up (since my parents were kind enough to let me live with them for very low rent), but it's barely anything compared to the $100k tuition). My plan for additional money was to apply to as many scholarships as possible, take out some Grad PLUS Loans, find a rich family member (joking! ?), work during semester 3 & 4, and to find work at a place that has tuition reimbursement/repayment (or maybe it's called loan forgiveness?) once I get my MSN. A "C" in Biochem is a great feat! Biochem is tough! And absolutely still apply! The worst they can say is no, but there is still a good possibility they can say yes. You'll never know unless you try, right!

@PagingNurseTerri Those are some great schools! I was looking at Charles Drew for some time, but was nervous about taking the HESI. I definitely think direct entry MSN programs are the way to go b/c I think eventually (10-30 years from now?) they'll want all their nurses with BSNs to get an MSN (kind of like many hospitals did with pushing their nurses with ADNs to get their BSN). Since you're looking at UCLA (which has biochemistry as a prerequisite), I would also look into Azusa Pacific Uni! I initially wanted to apply, but I avoided biochem like the plague, which they require!

@Sdnursinggirl619 I’m sorry to hear about USD! They missed out on you! But U of Hawaii sounds amazing! What an awesome place to go to school! I did my first two years at my local CC, then transferred to UC Santa Barbara! Are you planning on applying to any other schools?

@Sdnursinggirl619 Yes! I’m crossing my fingers and toes for all of us! ??Whereabouts did you go to school for undergrad? Also since you live in SD, did you apply to USD for their nursing school by any chance? USD has been a school I’ve been looking into, although USF is my top choice! I live in the South Bay in LA County (about an hour away from the campus), so I was hoping to commute from home!

@anonymous-phn-RN The lack of empathy you display really saddens and shocks me. In a time when our nurses are getting sick from lack of PPE and are having to come in contact with their high risk family members, you chose to try to divide people instead of trying to understand the tough circumstances these brave nurses are dealing with. Right now is not the time to put blame on these heroes, but to listen and try to speak up for them. Our voices will be heard. Stay united, not divided.

@kaitlinrenee I definitely believe it’ll all be worth it! I’m sure you’ll be an amazing nurse! But WOW!, thank you for all the insight and all the time you spent in answering the questions! It’s really neat that b/c you are in such an early cohort, you get to be a pioneer of the program and give feedback on the professors! I didn’t know they don’t have a library. By any chance, do they allow you guys to study in open rooms in the building? And I’m happy to hear you’d choose to do the program again if you could go back! That speaks a lot for the program! Noted on the workload. I definitely wouldn’t want to jeopardize myself by taking on too much during a hard semester. Do you know if many of the students come in with a CNA license? I’ve been trying to get a feel of what people who have been admit have, but everyone seems to be so diverse in their previous work backgrounds and GPA’s. Thank you for the heads up! I will definitely look into the online pathophysiology lessons! But oh man, maybe I can use a voice changing program to try to make her voice more enjoyable!! ?

I remember how relieved I felt after submitting mine since I had been stressing over my words for quite a while, so I hope you’re feeling a similar relief! What did you guys get your bachelors in? I got mine in Biopsychology!
