The latest from this faculty was that maybe they should have music playing and multiple loud conversations going on while the students take the exams which are all NCLEX questions because after all that type of distraction is what nurses deal with.

No. I’m saying that if we have Covid or are Covid positive we are still expected to attend clinicals in the Hospital. No excuses. Missing clinicals if you have Covid will be treated like any other absence and will be punished like any other clinical absence.

Anyone’s school say getting Covid is no excuse for missing clinical? The schools policy is that the students should not put patients in harms way. Punishing symptomatic Covid positive nursing students for missing clinical sounds like it would be in conflict with that since it would lead to students going to clinical symptomatic and positive.

If you are on a biological medicine for psoriatic arthritis such as Humera you are contraindicated for live vaccines. It’s a big no no as you can actually end up contracting the disease. I just got my titers back for nursing school and I am immune to everything and up to date on everything they want but show no immunity to Mumps. I’m not supposed to get that vaccine at this point for medical reasons and I know I got the MMR as required when I was a child but I’m in my 50’s. Those records are probably long gone. My 79 year old mother is searching her file (god love her). I don’t know what the heck I’m going to do. My rhumotologist says live vaccines are not OK for me.

Anyone older, immunosuppressive or with comorbities are going to have to drop out because there is no way in hell it makes sense to be in a clinical location this fall. That really sucks. After 4 years of working to get in, getting in last year off the waitlist at the last minute and deciding to wait to get micro done, I am probably going to have to quit and reapply next year. That’s actually not true. There are lots of careers in nursing that would not require being in contact with folks likely to be infected. I’m interested in surgery. And yes. I’m on drugs that lower immunity because I have an autoimmune disease and in addition I am old. I may be the oldest in my class. In addition, this is a second career for me that I am choosing because I’m interested in it rather than because I need money. If I was already a nurse last Spring and I was in a dangerous position I would have just taken a sabbatical. Which I may have to do now until there is a vaccine. My wife does not have to go to the office anymore. We have everything delivered rather than go inside. Our parents need help from us regularly and are in their 80’s. It’s not nice to call someone dramatic when you don’t know their situation.

They were pretty specific about the exact computer equipment you need to do the virtual clinicals etc. They were clear the classes would be virtual. They seemed to have a plan to bring in small groups for skill labs. I did not get the impression they were all that unsure. Frankly, it’s a very good thing as they seem to be interested in keeping everyone safe.

Didn’t you get the email? Capital is mostly virtual in the fall.

That’s not what I am getting from the discussion. I think folks were just trying to think of reasons people might drop out of the group that have already been accepted so they can estimate when they might find out. Like I said, I got called in early August last year due to another students illness. I was #36. I decided to wait and reapply. I have been accepted this year without the waitlist. I was notified via a phone call.

Many people apply to more than one program. Some folks apply to both 2 year and 4 year programs Some folks choose to accept an offer from a different program instead of CCNP. In addition, people have unexpected life events, illnesses, family issues. They may decide to decline or postpone their offer for those reasons. Those things can come up into the Summer. You can get called with a number over 30.

They will call you if they have a place to offer you. It can happen as late as early to mid August

Accepted to Capital. Don’t give up if you are waitlisted. I was 36th last year and got the call in late July. I gave up the seat because I did not have micro yet. Upped my rank and got in this time without being waitlisted.
