i asked my oldest professors( one has retired a year ago) and a friend of my aunt(both are nurses) and here is what they have to say: the cap is a symbol, makes you stand out, yes, but aside from that not much. the uniform, on the other hand(this also includes the male variant, right down to the shoes), is there for respectability and DISCIPLINE. that respectability basically comes from wearing white cleanly. ever seen someone in a three-piece white suit? spotlessly clean. you'd admire or even envy his fastidiousness. now in our case, we work on stain-making substances(blood, iodine; you name it) maintaining our spotlessness is a mark that we are careful on our every move, we maintain our presentability to the different clients we meet, we know what we are doing and so we are disciplined, especially when we are encumbered with the layers of cloth around our bodies together with our white shoes. as my old officers from way back then used to holler: "BEARING IS 9 POINTS OF COMMAND! LOOK SNAPPY!"

well, in this country employers are hard-pressed to pay nurses properly, much less to hire new ones. why would anyone get out of the place they grew up and work in a foreign land as a nurse or a caregiver(which is a hard and can be a back-breaking work)?

1. IV therapy training 2. BLS -> ACLS training try to finish this asap. then try to gain things to get the edge. as of now think that you're selling your expertise as a product. what would be appealing to the customer(employer) enough to buy it?

1. nursing IS NOT REPEAT NOT a dumb course. there are no dumb courses, only dumb instructors and administrators(and some dumb students who just plays along to fill the pockets of the :devil:smart:devil: ones, not really pushing to get their money's worth). 2. true. and it keeps on going, and going, and going... 3. false. NEVER is a generalization, and is usually wrong in the local board exams! that being said, imagine yourself as an animal(any species) in the savannah. there is a drought and various packs, prides, herds, etc. are struggling for water. how do you survive? by having the EDGE. be faster, taller, smarter, stronger, whatever it takes, then you will have the highest chance of getting water. now try applying that in the real world.:prdnrs:

for the first part, it all comes down to two things: MOTIVATION and ATTITUDE. motivation is fairly simple, if you are just considering the profession as a way out: earn big bucks/ live abroad, then growth as a nurse will be stunted. i've seen this in first- and second-coursers alike. for attitude, it is also linked with motivation, for nursing isn't just a profession, it's a calling. it's easy to discern when one can't cut it as a nurse when vestiges of his/her former profession or real inner calling reaches out. i've seen it also in first- (when parents want them to take nuursing/ they believe it is the earning job abroad) and second-coursers(especially those of the technical professions and those from other health professions; they have deep ingrained habits from their former jobs). you can study all you want(especially if you have the money), but applying it is another matter. as commonly quoted: "anything worth doing is worth doing good(not just right/correctly)". to tell you the truth, i have my doubts on the nle, nclex and cgfns. it's different when you are in front of a sheet of paper/computer screen; it's another thing entirely when the real thing is right in front of you, and you just have seconds to decide what's the right thing to do and the choices aren't offered up to you in black and white(and in multiple choice format). and since nursing is one of those "applied sciences", i would vote for having a practical exam on the part of the licensure. there we can be assured that the standards are really on par on the international scale (don't whine about being a third world country and having scarce resources, millions are dumped in the schooling so why couldn't they train their students in practical application according to the international standards). i dream of the day when that happens, when the proctor asks you "why did you do that that way" and the answer will be " well, that's in the philippine setting":yeah: NOW THAT'S HIGH QUALITY! ISO STANDARDS EVEN! PS the last paragraph, imho, is better suited in the international forums. there they can prove or disprove whether america can survive or not without such.

yes, the catholic church works good, but as of now it is overwhelmed with issues here(birth control, food prices, etc.) and most health services offered in places farther from us are usually controlled by the LGUs(local gov't units/i.e. municipal or provincial gov't, like a county or something). there politics play:you have an easier time if you're closer to the higher ups. and as of the other christian churches, i've seen that concept work, and i've also seen it destroyed three times in 3 different provinces. as long as politics are in, it's in rough seas. and that's my assessment of the situation here based on my experiences. but to tell the truth, i haven't seen it in muslim communities. even though i'm not a muslim, i'd better see if that'll work.

before, you have a set number(i think it was 2-3 times) of tries before you have to take a refresher course of about 6 months. now, its all the way, try and try until you die... and as stated somewhere: AS LONG AS YOU CAN AFFORD YOU CAN STUDY. not all. i can teach as a CI by getting 8 units of masteral studies(even if you don't finish it). some schools don't need any units at all(if the subject matter is of less than 3 units or you are a CI in an easy area, e.g. the nursery, outpatient dept, etc.) i can also be a reviewer in a review center if: 1. i am a former customer; 2. i scored high on the NLE; having the salary of php 500-600 an hour even if i am a new graduate/passer! i won't name names, they know who they are.

i beg to differ. my highschool classmates and i have exchanged notes and syllabi(plural of syllabus; correct if wrong), and out of 14 schools only two have covered all the topics present and/or absent in others. i just lost my copies of these last year. and being the responsibility of the nurse to assess the standard; as stated in a previous post and in yours, the nation is in the state of SCARCITY(ha ha, how's that for a SONA/state of the nation address:yeah:!) what if the school's got the lowest standard, yet is the only affordable one? having the view of "nursing is the ticket to prosperity" they'll go for it. no, they do not hold accountable their alma mater. that's why they have REVIEW CENTERS:lol2:! my aunt(who is a nurse for almost two decades), my professors and to a certain degree, myself, long for the time when the criteria is set back to: 1. be a upper (something)% of your HS graduating class to be accepted in a nursing curriculum. 2. maintain a set average standard to stay in the program. 3. limit the tries for the NLE. 4. return to the schools themselves the responsibility of preparing their graduates for the NLE, not those #$^%^$ review centers. well, just wishful thinking...

i have my misgivings about that one, for... 1. majority of filipinos in the luzon and visayas region are catholic. which means that to implement this, we have to work to the central leaders, unlike in a protestant/adventist/baptist/other christian churches where they are decentralized. and as of now the catholic church here is full of fighting poverty and administering to the masses, not to mention dabbling with politics. 2. in other christian churches, it is possible(a few of them has a majority of upper- and middle-class members). problem happens when politics(AGAIN:banghead:) rears its ugly head. separation of church and state? WE WISH...

SO SAD..... THAT AS LONG AS YOU'RE CAPABLE TO PAY YOU CAN STUDY...... AND STUDY... AND STUDY..... HOWEVER, CAPABILITY TO PAY DOES NOT EQUATE TO BEING A GOOD AND CAPABLE NURSE. so you can study all you want, fatten the pockets of the 'smart' ones, and still make no difference to the profession in general.

php 8,000? when did you enroll? i never known of r.u.n. having fees below 10k. other review centers are 13-15k.] ALL ARR BLATANT RIP-OFFS!

so, there it is: except for ksa-moh, there are no offerings for new nurses/those with less than 2-years experience other than volunteering. and volunteering is NOT counted as experience.

sir, may i ask: are you referring to saudi moh and the middle east, or some offers in new zealand? those are the only open ones. i checked, others require experience.

which country ma'am? almost nobody accepts those with less than 2 years experience.

they'll have fun all right. workers who don't mind working for a lower salary, it's better than nothing. employers would have a merry time saving their money. and where does that leave us? still nowhere.

nahh... they ain't good period. cause they're almost all the same.

about r.u.n.: they have an ace now: the top 1 in the previous nle came from them. but based on my experience, almost all(i recently sat in on carl balita, i have tried r.u.n., gapuz, pentagon, and others) are basically the same: promises, promises, PROMISES! the only advantage you get is the mock exam(all of the centers) you'll have a "previous experience" so you know what to do at the exam itself. funny, if the nursing schools teach well there wouldn't be a need for review centers, just review.

what is the process?

did they already released those for dec 2007? what;'s the current registration # being released recently?

yeah, if years ago i lived near that area, that would be my first choice. they have been on the 'tops' list as far as i remember, and are on the 'to watch list of my friend's company.

yup, some employers go for the "big-time", they have 'agents 'scour the various universities and colleges and compare it to international standards and prc records. one of my high school classmates is one of those 'agents' put on temporary assignment aside from their regular duties. those schools which are difficult to enter are continuously straining out the best so that their(school) name is a beacon of hiqh quality to potential employers.

if i was in the student's place i would have a quiet chuckle myself. i won't film the procedure. and most of all... I WON'T POST IT IN THE NET, MUCH LESS ON YOUTUBE, FER CHRISSAKES'! i've seen much absurd cases than this one and all of the staff involved had quite a few laughs, but it never gets out of the OR. this is petty stupidity at its finest. post on youtube so that you can share a few laughs and shout to the world: hey lookee what i got here! better do this: this is clear evidence that health care here is not up to par. AND THEY WANT TO PROMOTE MEDICAL TOURISM? i was reminded of the old joke bout the soviet union when we were musing about the health services standard here. and the joke goes: AS LONG AS THEY PRETEND TO PAY US, WE WILL PRETEND TO WORK.

finally, someone has said this that i cannot blatantly state publicly. thanks, ms. suzanne. i am a filipino, i graduated here, i have worked( and currently finding work again) here; and i agree 100% with ms. suzanne. the gov't is allowing mass production of nurses. it's true that most of us filipinos learn to 'kumapit sa patalim'(hang on by the blade) just to survive. but remember, in this world we are not the only nurses around. those who own hospitals use the economic mindset of maximizing profits and minimizing losses. now what happens when there is a mass influx of nurses? competition will be keen and thus they can cut salaries, like when rice is in surplus. the question is, when the nurses are NOT of high quality due to rushed training, the employers can lower the salaries and benefits more. after all, those nurses can be considered "just as glorified maids". and all those things nurses before us have fought for will be to waste. and you think filipino nurses are the only ones affected? american, british, canadian, australian; many nurses of other nationalities are also affected because they are NURSES as well. this is the problem that filipinos have: i am happy, my family is happy, my friends are happy; others? what others? look at politicians, the elite and even just look at the various baranggays(a term poorly translated as 'village'; sorry it's the best i can do) they don't give a @^ what happens the the next baranggay unless it's a fire and it's going to spead to their houses.

it's so sad and INFURIATING to think that we filipinos harm our fellow filipinos so that we earn to prosper our families and cronies. the food that their kids live on is earned by the tears and suffering of their kabayan(fellow filipino)
