Hi. I was wondering if any of the geriatric RNs, such as SNF RNs, have seen their patients in very advanced age (90s) get the COVID vaccine? Did they tolerate it well? Any extreme side effects?

Perhaps ask your PCP? I believe it is up to the doctor to decide if your condition is considered a “serious” illness. Good luck with your decisions. Stay well!

How is your employer handling you staying Away from your unit if you high risk health wise? Are they making use PTO, FMLA, etc? Are they allowed you to temporarily work on a less risky floor? It looks like this outbreak could on for a while...if it does, those that are off may be out of PTO well before the outbreak is over.

MunoRN, have you seen any patients started on hydroxychloroquine/Plaqenil? Does it seem to be helping?

Sorry you’re going through this. Ironic because we would never tell our patients to work when sick and contagious. My workplace has a similar point system. speaking from experience, some employers offer “accommodations” due the the ADA law where the department must work with you on your schedule regarding absences related to your medical condition. this may be extreme, and too expensive, but maybe consult an employment lawyer if this remains an issue
