  1. I took my test yesterday (Thursday) afternoon. I checked my states board of nursing license site for my name and it was listed there with my license number this morning (Friday). I didn't even get my quick results from Pearson yet so I was shocked I got my nursing license so quickly
  2. Hi. I'm starting my first nursing job as a new grad soon and the NICU I will be working in said I have to obtain my NRP certification on my own prior to starting. The job is in a different state so they didn't know where I could get the certification where I currently live. I reached out to some local hospitals but they said they only do classes for current employees. I did a Google search and found places online I can get a certification for $275 but I wasn't sure if these are legit places or not. Anyone have any suggestions on where to get the certification from? I thought the hospital I would be working at would offer me the class there once I started but I guess not so I'm not sure what to do now. Thanks!
  3. The last update I received was from July 17th saying I was moving forward but nothing since then
  4. Hi. I'm moving to Savannah and I'm looking into RN jobs and the main hospital there is Memorial Health which is now part of HCA. I haven't heard the best things about HCA in general but I haven't heard anything specific about the Savannah hospital. I was wondering if anyone has any insight on the hospital and could please share? I want to apply but I don't wanna work in a bad or unsafe environment. I would be applying for an ICU job. Thanks!
  5. Hi. I'm a new grad nurse and I just accepted a position in the NICU at OHSU Children's hospital. I just had some question I was wondering if anyone worked in the hospital could answer. What color scrubs do the nurses wear? What is working in that hospital like? Are people friendly to new nurses? How good is the orientation program. Since its not a new grad residency position I'm a little nervous but was told the orientation lasts 18 weeks. How is scheduling done? I tried asking about this during my interview and they said it was preference but you don't schedule yourself but didn't go into any more details about it. How does taking time off for vacation work? I already have a family vacation scheduled for 2023 thats already been paid for since it was supposed to happen but got canceled due to Covid and I don't wanna miss it. I know these are questions I should ask the hospital but I don't wanna bug them with anymore emails so I figured I would try here first before emailing them. Thanks!
  6. Wow I kinda wish where I work was that cautious. I work in LTC also but we only have to get tested once a week. Where I work they don't care if you have symptoms or are sick at all you have to come to work or you lose any overtime pay or incentive pay for 2 weeks. They also don't send anyone home if they are sick which I think is ridiculous. Staff feel like they are forced to come to work even if they have symptoms otherwise they are punished for staying home. Somehow we 8 months without a single covid case among the residents. We just recently had an outbreak but so far 30 residents and 19 staff are down with Covid and the numbers are increasing daily.
  7. I know exactly how you feel. About a month ago I worked with a nurse who doesn't care at all about Covid guidelines. She constantly posts pictures of large gatherings at her house with no one socially distancing or wearing a mask. The night I worked with her, it was just the 2 of us on the unit since we work overnights. She kept pulling her mask down constantly and even did so when talking to residents (we work in a nursing home). I did let my supervisor know because her not wearing a mask was making me nervous and is not fair to the residents. Well the next day I got a call from HR because that nurse ended up getting a positive covid test result. We only get tested once a week and sometimes it can take 5 days to get the test result back which is why she was working the night before getting her result. Up until that point, our nursing home had been very lucky with no cases of Covid in the nursing home among any residents. But since her positive test, we have had 30 residents test positive in the last couple of weeks. Most of them on the unit we worked on. 3 of the residents have since died. Between last week and this week 19 aides and nurses working on the unit or float staff have now tested positive as well. Thankfully I tested negative after being around this nurse but personally I think she is the reason we had the outbreak. She was the one who was unknowingly positive at work but wouldn't keep her mask up and was in multiple residents faces with her mask down. She never got in trouble for not wearing a mask. She just had to do her 14 day quarantine and has since returned to work.
  8. Did anyone send in an updated transcript to StonyBrook? If so, did you just email it to someone in admissions or did you mail it?
  9. I haven't heard anything yet and we're pretty getting close to January for there to be a second wave at this point. I'm pretty sure I didn't get accepted which is fine since I got accepted to a direct entry MSN program which was my top choice anyways.
  10. Hi! I was recently reading a blog post from a woman who is a general surgery nurse practitioner. I had no idea that nurse practitioners could specialize in surgery and I was wondering if anyone knows what the process is to become a general surgery nurse practitioner? When I was looking into NP schools, I didn't find any that offered a general surgery specialty. Thanks for any information!
  11. Is the group for just MSN or the dual MN + MSN?
  12. I have the same exact message. I'm assuming I got accepted to the specialty that I applied for.
  13. Hi! I just got accepted into a MSN program and I'm trying to figure out how to pay for expenses such as an apartment while in grad school. The nursing program I'll be attended says we're not allowed to work while in school so I don't know how to pay for an apartment or my car. Has anyone had any experience with this and has any advice?
  14. Hi! I'm thinking about entering a nurse midwife graduate program and I have some questions. First, are CNMs allowed to work in any state or only the state they go to school in? I'm worried that I may have trouble finding a job or a job that pays well once I finish school. I don't mind moving to another state for a job but, I want to make sure I can move to other states and don't have to reapply for a license in every state. Second, how is the job market for CNMs and are there some places that have more jobs like hospitals or birth centers? What does starting salary look like? Since I'm going to have a lot of student loan debt I want to be able to find a high paying job quickly after I graduate. Any input you can give me would be awesome. Thanks!
  15. Anyone know if we are getting an accepted students packet in the mail with information about admitted students day? I can't find anything online about it.
  16. Thanks! That's awesome that we applied for the same track. I hope you get in!
  17. I just got my acceptance! I was accepted to the dual degree program for the nurse-midwife track. I got an email from them saying that my status had changed. Went to the apply. nursing.Emory page and it said click here for application update and when I clicked it there was confetti and a letter saying I was accepted
  18. Hi all! I'm currently in school to become a nurse practitioner specializing as a nurse-midwife. I have always wanted to do travel nursing but I have no idea if it's possible as an NP or is it something only RN's can do? Any insight would be super helpful. Thanks!
  19. Mine does not say status admitted above it. It still says status application received. Maybe it will update tomorrow.
  20. My OPUS page now has a green button that says pay admission deposit. Does this mean I got accepted?
  21. Also, I just noticed that I now have a green button that says pay admissions deposit. Does this mean I got accepted? My application status still says admitted. I just got one on my page and I had the same question. I'm hoping this means we are accepted but I'm not sure
  22. Does anyone know how many people are admitted to the program and how big the class sizes are? Thanks!
  23. I would contact them if you applied before that deadline and still haven't heard back. I'm still waiting to hear but I didn't apply until September.
  24. These are the schools that I know of that currently have programs. John's Hopkins Emory University MGH Northeastern University Vanderbilt University https://www.aacnnursing.org/Nursing-Education This site allows you to search for specific nursing programs across the U.S. They allow you to search under entry-level masters or advanced BSN and then you can choose a specific state or see all of the programs across the country. Hope this helps! Good luck!
