Samford FNP ENP Program
Yes! I work with a lot of NP's right now, and they all tell me they wish they did their ENP in school versus working full time and trying to study for another certification. Here's the link to their website where it breaks it down in detail. It works for my family but sometimes loans are necessary unfortunately. I would see if your state has any forgivable loan programs for nursing (they basically pay for your school and the loan is forgiven if you work in the state for however long they paid for) https://www.samford.edu/admission/payment-plans

Samford FNP ENP Program
Yes, the 4 visits are through the whole program, so over about 2ish years. I live several hours away, so I drive in the night before and stay in a hotel. There are quite a few people who fly in and say it's doable! There are so few ENP programs that, in my opinion, it's worth it. We are responsible for finding clinical placements unfortunately. They can help a little, but it's hard if you're not in Alabama. They did give me contact information for alumni in my state. I haven't had too many issues. Use any professional connections, cold call like crazy, and use the resources of your hospital system if possible. In state and out of state tuition is the same and comes out to about 46,000 for the whole program. It's comparable to most other programs. They have a payment plan if you don't want to take out loans (which is what I'm doing) and it's awesome. Let me know if you have any other questions! It's been a great program so far.

Samford FNP ENP Program
Pretty big, around 60 for the fnp. Enp is a little smaller. Do you have emergency experience in any capacity? (Cna, emt, paramedic, RN, floating, preceptorships) most emergency np programs just want to know if you know what you're getting into. The idea of the emergency world is VERY different than the reality of it. Plus they want to know that you have something to build off of.

Samford FNP ENP Program
Yes! I did get in and started the program in January. I found out very quickly after applying. I believe the deadline was in October and I heard back in a week or two?I have only good things to say about the program! It has been a phenomenal experience so far.

New Grad RN looking for a job out of state
1. Honestly all hospitals are different. Some have residencies and some don't. Start times are also all over the place. I would say apply to regular positions and residency positions. Many hospitals sometimes hire directly to a unit, even when they have a residency program. The worst thing that could happen is that they say no. Worth a shot! 2. I would apply early spring? Some hospitals have a very slow hiring process. If there is a residency program, try to contact the director and ask for their opinion. Just be sure to put on your resume when you expect your degree. Also put somewhere on your application that you are already planning on moving to VA and it shouldn't be a problem at all. 3. Virginia and North Carolina are both compact states. When you sit for the nclex, it will be easy to transfer your license to VA. It will work out! I know many people that got jobs out of state after nursing school. If both states are compact states it is pretty simple. And when applying always err on the side of too early rather than too late. Good luck!

Adult Oncology to Pediatrics
Hey! Congrats on the job! A lot of your skills are going to transfer over well, it will mostly be adapting to the changes that come with much smaller patients! Another huge component of pediatrics is learning to work with the families. It can be the most trying part of the job. Try to be patient with the over-stressed and under-rested parents (and also be patient with yourself!).

ABSN Program
I felt like it taught me the basic background information and skills that I needed. And I did pass the nclex on the first try. However I feel like the nclex is very different than actual nursing practice (especially if you decide to go into a specialty). I agree with the comment that you get what you give, because I've seen people in the same nursing class do very differently in clinical practice!

Samford FNP ENP Program
Hi! I was wondering if anyone has been accepted to Samford University's FNP/ENP 2020 spring cohort? I was also hoping to hear if previous students had any input about the program? Thank you!
