Johns Hopkins Entry into Nursing (MSN) Fall 2021
Hi Euna, I just graduated from JHSON in May 2021. I interviewed and got an offer before I graduated in March 2021. To answer your questions, finding jobs is not difficult but it depends on the location because the demand and supply for the jobs are different based on the popularity of a city. I think the program defintely prepared me enough for practice with its 2-year curriculum compared to ABSN that is usually just one year. For me, the cons for the program is 1) location, 2) tuition can be high depending on how much scholarship & financial assistance you get, 3) this program is highly conceived towards those who want to pursue JHSON's DNP/PhD programs since there are courses like EBP that are highly research-based and repetitive (each semester) that can be transferred to those programs. Overall, if you are more job-oriented, I'd say even an ABSN can get you jobs without issue. If you are more about advanced studies, then MSN might be a good option. (BTW, you only need either a BSN or MSN to become an RN, not both).

MedStar Georgetown Nurse Residency 2021
Not sure why they gave the offer so early in Mar., but wait till April to email the offer letter and other docs. Maybe they are trying to group email everyone who accepted an offer at the same time so that the new grads can get to know each other?

Johns Hopkins Entry into Nursing (MSN) Fall 2021
Hi, I’d say absolutely going for ABSN then do a BSN-DNP in the future after gaining some bedside experience even just for one year. This way, it saves money and time for you and it’s what I would have done if it’s my case. It’s actually the same amount of time or even less: ABSN 1year + DNP 4 years vs. MSN 2years + DNP 4 years.

Johns Hopkins Entry into Nursing (MSN) Fall 2021
Hi, 5th semester MSN Entry into Nursing student here. I share a similar background with you. I did not have any healthcare-related experience prior to entering the program. I find that JHSON's program has given me ample time to gain the amount of experience, knowledge, and skills needed to succeed after graduation. The JHH is right next door to the SON. You can take advantage of the nurse extern program at JHH to gain real-life healthcare experience after finishing the first semester. So by the time you graduate, you will have a year and a half of healthcare experience as Nurse Extern. RN interviews focus way more on patient care experience than what school you go to or what grades you get.

Cool. Thanks for replying to my post. At least I know I'm not the only one waiting ? I have a friend who interviewed for MedStar Washington. She received the offer email with documents attached.

MedStar Georgetown Nurse Residency 2021
I interviewed in late February. The recruiter called the next day to notify me about the offer, which I accepted the next Monday. She said she will email me everything 'in a couple weeks'. Is anyone waiting on the onboarding documents also? I wonder why they have to wait for so long.

Isn't the pay at GT pretty low compared to the cost of living esp. rent in DC?

@newnurse98 As a bigger and major city, DC is definitely more competitive than other smaller cities

Job Hunt - Too Late
By giving up, you mean change career field now because you can't find any residencies? How about widening your more search criteria and locations?

Is it time to finally do this...
@potentialrn24 My motivation is that I want to help patients and I'm highly interested in this field plus I want to step away from the airline industry. Maybe this MSN Pre-licensure Nursing program might help prepare me for the administrative side of nursing with Leadership class, but I definitely don't think I can go into that side any time sooner than people with ABSN who have more related experience. I applied to both ABSN and MSN and chose this MSN because it gave me the most scholarship (merit-based) and is a very prestigious school with a good support and career network. It costs me 55K for the entire program, while another private BSN program I applied costs about the same. so getting from a degree from this school (Hopkins) was a good decision for me overall.

Is it time to finally do this...
Hi, I'm going to be 31 (also male) in Nov this year and I'm in a two year MSN Entry into Nursing program. I did 4 years of flight attending prior to that. Got so bored doing it just as you did with corporate job. It's nice that you have shadowing experience prior to going into nursing school, which I didn't have. But I knew it's time for a career change and I had a colleague what was in nursing that I can ask questions about. Nursing is a much better career choice for me since it has way more options and higher pay. I had one OR observation so far and kind of liked it and interested in pursuing it too. But soon as a new grad, I feel it really just depends on what options are available instead of just fixating on getting into that one speciality, which might come later. I encourage to continue dig deeper into your goals and nursing as a career. Ask us any questions you might have. Good luck!

Direct Entry MSN 2020 at Columbia University
This is exactly how I felt last year when I visited the school on Visiting Day! They don’t seem organized (perhaps due to the fact that they changed to a new dean). The faculties coming and going made it seem like it was a business promotion event to get your money. I went to Hopkins instead and I’m still glad that I trusted my gut and didn’t choose Columbia. If you go to Hopkins’ visiting day and make the comparison, you will probably realize the difference.
