  1. In my state only LSN licensed school nurses can call themselves the school nurse. A RN, LPN are called building nurses.

I have an update! An elementary school nurse in my district is leaving and I have been offered her position in an elementary school servicing 800 students (not during COVID of course). I think that will keep me on my toes! Hahahah

We are currently in hybrid right now and I work at a middle school. I only have about 200 kids in my building a day. I have COVID work for the mornings and I typically only see about 3-4 kids a day. This is my second year and last year was definitely busier pre COVID but to be honest it was still not very busy. The nurse in our districts other middle school is very busy. Feeling useless....any advice appreciated.

Our school district is talking about having distant learning until November or later. I am afraid that I will get laid off starting end of August. Nobody has said that but I am still nervous. Anyone else nervous about job stability in the fall?
  5. We are closing starting tomorrow for up to a few weeks. I was told that I have to be on site in order to be paid...I have 3 kids at home 5, 8 and 11....I dont want to have to leave them home alone for a few weeks... I am very organized and I literally have nothing to do. And I mean nothing...I even have my 6th graders Tdap and menactra vaccines from MIIC put in the computer.....so I'm just going to stare at my walls for 4 days.....
  6. As an LPN working as a building nurse, what other option is there....call an RN to assess or do the best you can in an emergency situation.
  7. My struggle is the students who are excused from gym due to a concussion. Do I make them rest in the health office? Do I send them to the library to study? If I send them to sit on the side lines in gym...what if they get hit with a ball? im sorry I’m full of questions and no answers! its a hard call
  8. When you have I’ll students who goes to the locker to get their backpack? The secretaries cannot do it on occasion and get upset. I do not want to leave my students in my health office who have asthma or cane in for dizziness....I don’t want to leave them to go get a backpack for the student who is going home. my principal does not want parents going into the school. today I can back to my office with a note that the secretary gave a student their inhaler before gym....well they were running the pacer today I would have like to have assessed student. i came back another time to a diabetic student waiting to get into office to check their blood sugar. principal blew me off, he thinks it is my job to go get the students backpack and leave my students in the health office....this pisses me off, my blood is boiling, I’m the one that needs to write the note if something happens and saying I left the office to get a backpack is not going to be acceptable to the board of nursing. Any advice? I am so angry and feel so unsupported
  9. I am an LPN. I am a building nurse currently. I don’t want to do anything else but I feel like getting my RNwould give me more confidence in my work. But I can’t wrap my head around spending 30,000 and not making anymore money. I love school nursing and I do not want to be an LSN....so is it really worth it to go back?
