  1. Hello! I am in the middle of completing the prerequisites to enter an RN program. I am a 44 y.o. Male and have had AIDS for 7 years. I too had PCP. I'd be very interested in hearing your experiences as a nurse with AIDS and would love to get your advice on what it's like. Thanks!
  2. This can't be in any of the big cities of California. I understand that demand there is high. Do you live in a rural part of California?
  3. My school requires a class called "Biology for Health Occupations", as well as English 101. You also have to pass a Math and English proficiency exam.
  4. Thanks for the response. Sounds intimidating. Are you really expected to memorize ALL of the Meds that are available or just some of the major ones?
  5. I've heard people in here talking about the Pharmacology portion of their LVN/LPN training and how difficult it was. I'm entering a program in the Spring and am curious what Pharmacology training for LVN/LPN's actually entails. Is it just a lot of rote memorization of medications and their Latin names? Are you really expected to memorize ALL of the medications that are out there? That would seem to be well nigh impossible! Enlighten me people. Barry
  6. At my school in Los Angeles, the prerequisites are English 101 and Biology 36 followed by three Semesters of LVN Training. Anatomy and Physiology are not Prerequisites at my school. The Prerequisites we do have take only one semester to complete assuming you can get into those two classes via placement exam. If not, you have to work your way up to them by taking lesser courses. Barry
  7. I don't really see what algebra has to do with medication administration. Can you enlighten me? Barry
  8. I'm busy trying to brush up on my rusty math skills prior to trying to enter an LVN Program. Can you tell me specifically what kind of math skills are involved in a medication administration exam? Is it Fractions? Decimals? Basic arithmetic? Algebra? Or some combination of all four? Thanks in advance for your reply. Barry
  9. I'm curious to know where you graduated from in California. Was it possibly L.A.Trade and Technical College? That's where I am considering attending. If so, I have a few more questions for you! Barry

Thanks for the response. Assuming I get my LVN license in California, if I subsequently move to Massachusetts and obtain Licensure there can I then call myself an LPN or would the term LVN still apply? Thanks. Barry

I am contemplating going to LVN school here in California. I notice that in my home state of Massachusetts the term LPN is used as opposed to LVN. I'm curious to know if I obtain my degree in California and get an LVN License here will I have any problem working as an LPN in the State of Massachusetts? Does anyone know if the two States have reciprocity? Barry
  12. Greetings, I am contemplating starting LVN school. One of my primary areas of interest is Psychiatry, and I'm curious to know if there are any opportunities for LVN's on Psych units or if you pretty much have to be an RN? Any responses would be appreciated. Thanks. Barry
