Traveled to Methodist Healthcare. Methodist is on CERNA. Pretty good patient/staff ratios. Be careful with your contract that it has where you are working and a location address because they have 7 locations. My contract said Methodist Healthcare not the specific hospital I was supposed to work for. Just make sure your contract is exactly what you need...days off etc. St Francis is a good hospital too. The MED is a trauma hospital but mainly indigent go there... They also have St. Jude there...which is the childrens hospital...its a good place. Memphis is a very dangerous place. I feel safer in NY city. There is a shortage there...they use agencies alot. Very traveler friendly...people in the hospitals are nice...you have Tunica close by to gamble...
  2. You won't find any information on the HESI test...the best thing you can do is to do 1000's of questions. I don't care how much you study, they find things on the HESI test that you didn't even go over in school. One of my questions on the HESI test was about priaprism in school and how you care for the patient with it....we never went over that in nursing school..we went over diabetes, the general nursing topics...its the things that you didn't go over that get you on the HESI and you will never be able to study enough...Springhouse Incredibly Easy REVIEW book is great study tool....the questions on the disc you can just do a few and you get the answer immediately...and it is broken up by section...psch, ob, ped, etc...if you want to study peds ..you can do a few questions.....My score the first time in peds on the HESI was the lowest in the class...the last score I was the highest....it was the questions....Hesi prepares you for NCLEX. HOW, well making you do the questions...I passed the NCLEX on 75 questions. I believe that you have to do the questions over and over...to succeed...HOPE THIS HELPS....MICHELLE
  3. Working for TNS now. Its my first assignment and everything has been as I was told from them. I like their insurance...BCBS with first day benefits....I did not take their housing as I felt I could do Better. Which I did...in Memphis, TN. Probably would check out rental rates if I were to travel again...It was interesting looking for a place on my own...They charge alot more for rental rates on short term basis..and I talked with corporate apartments and they typically charge min $1500 a month furnished with utilities...which wouldn't be bad if you had a friend to travel with you. Not sure if my rates with TNS are comparable to other companies...I had a friend who traveled with them and was happy so I went with them. I have since met a traveler with TNS who is contracted at my hospital who has been with them 2 years...I am looking to go to Nashville next so I may have to switch if they don't have a contract there....thanks, michelle
  4. I graduated from UAH...When I went to nursing school I felt that my nursing instruction in the field was limited; however, there are some things that you just have to learn from being in the field. And everyone has to take responsibility for their own learning. UAH teaches you to be a critical thinker...which is different from the teaching that you receive at Calhoun. I would definitely tell you to go to UAH because later if you want to advance your career you will have to get BSN. Even though it doesn't matter pay wise in the area, it would matter if you went somewhere else. Also, you might want to look at the State of Alabama Board of Nursing. They publish the Nclex pass rates for both schools. I love the dean at UAH!!! Dean Raines. PS: Talking to a former student of UAH is a matter of opinion because I have talked to nurses from Calhoun that have similar complaints.....I think they are both pretty good schools.....hope this helps
  5. Are you taking the housing allowance? Are you working days or nights?
  6. Would like to know which company you are traveling with in Nashville? Want to travel to Nashville and can't seem to find anyone? Thanks, Michelle
