Any PMHNPs work PRN weekends for extra money?
Hi, I am a PMHNP that works in child and adolescent psychiatry. I have a full-time job, but I'm curious if there are jobs out there (prefer telehealth) to work PRN for extra money. I'm having a hard time finding something specifically for weekends PRN when I search the internet so thought I'd ask here. Thank you in advance!!

Advance Practice Preceptorships - Should students find their own preceptors?
Notice how CRNA programs don't have schools like this? Yet they make the most in the nursing industry. There are so many posts about FNPs not making enough, yet they seem to be the focus of these for-profit schools. I would be curious to see what would happen to wages if there were more stringent accreditation rules.

Open up....Spoonfed report
We have switched to bedside report and this has eliminated a lot of these problems. I wonder if other people that do bedside report continue to have these same problems or if they have improved?

My Poor Legs!
I have never thought of Danskos to be very comfortable when I tried them on. I bought some shoes made by nursemates and they are WONDERFUL!

If you weren't a nurse, what would you have become?
I would think of some amazingly brilliant idea and then go strike a major deal on "The Shark Tank" and become a millionaire :)

Minnesota LPN vs BSN program-can't decide which to choose
My advise is to not attend either one. Go for your associates RN at a community college ( a fraction of the price of globe university ) or choose a state university if you want to get your BSN. MN is so saturated with nurses right now, but some are still finding jobs in home health or nursing homes. EVERYONE wants to work at a hospital, but many union hospitals have had their rounds of lay offs due to the economy. When they do start hiring again I am sure they will have their pick of those who are the "cream of the crop" in their graduating nursing class. If you do decide to go for your BSN at Globe just remember that your take home pay minus your massive student loan payment may put your net income around that of an LPN. Also, if you want to continue your education do your credits transfer to other universities with NP/PA programs? You need to find this information out before you sign anything. One more thing..........and I am curious if my speculations are correct so feedback appreciated.........but it seems like those who received their BSN from private or state universities have a more competitive edge in the job market. I think employers look at for-profit schools like Globe and Rasmussen and see their nursing program and/or nursing student selection process inferior to those at the private/state schools.

Honors BSN unable to find job. Can the college be sued?
I'm sorry, but it is not a college's responsibility to hold your hand and guarantee a job for you. Maybe you should sue the people who won't hire you instead, they probably have a lot more money than your school!

HELP IN MN
There are no schools in st. cloud where you can get your ADN. St. Cloud State has a BSN program, but I know you don't want to wait that long. Central Lakes college in Brainerd or Anoka Ramsey Com. College in Coon Rapids are the two closest to you in the area. You can PM me for other questions about these schools if you want. Don't be discouraged I went a similar path to yours and actually ended up getting my LPN at a tech school and now applying for a bridge program.

Feeding tube schedule?
People if you don't want to help this girl answer her question then MOVE ON!! No one is forcing you to answer this question for her so instead of berating her for posting it on a PUBLIC FORUM why don't you just not respond to it and get on with your life.

Bipolar is wrecking my family...
I'm so sorry for your situation. My brother is bi-polar and his alcoholism makes the highs and lows a nightmare sometimes. There are times that he will make grandoise statements of things he is going to accomplish, which are usually too ambitious for the average person. Then he will go through periods of days where he is just sleeps for hours and can't even bring himself to take a shower. When he was living with my mom his temper tantrums were so severe that some times I had felt it was downright unsafe for her to be in the house with him alone. It is important that you and your mom focus on what is acceptable in the house and what is not, because even if one of you is not enforcing the rules your sister will find away to take advantage of the situation. My mother is the world's biggest pushover and it took her years for her to stand up for herself and finally kick him out. Perhaps you could reach out to others who know that she has been on the decline for a while and ask them to participate on an intervention. Good luck and please don't beat yourself up over the things you can't control.

Senate passes health care bill
I'm just saying that for people who receive high quality insurance from their employer will probably not have it, because their employer will stop buying that insurance plan and opt for the cheaper government option. If they do this then the people will receive less quality healthcare compared to what they were receiving.

Senate passes health care bill
This bill will help nurses find jobs, but do you think there will be any incentive to become a doctor with this bill? Will it create a shortage of doctors? Do you think that this will give incentives for companies to create new medical devices that can improve and/or save lives? Under the new plan you can keep your insurance through your employer, but what if your employer will choose the government option (which is likely to be cheaper) and reduce the quality of care that you receive?

May grad starting to look for NICU or Pediatric position
I really would not get my hopes up too high. Not to sound like a downer, but the new grad RN market is terrible right now. There have been major lay offs at almost all major hospitals. These specialty areas will probably not hire a new grad. If I were you I would take anything that I could get to at least have a job and get some kind of experience. Hopefully the market will turn in around in a few years.

help?! PEG tube incident
I know! Those stupid pills clog the j-tubes all the time at my work. Also, when you crush the pills and soak them in warm water draw the solution up in a 10 ml syringe. If it goes up the 10 ml syringe ok then it probably won't clog the tube. If you have difficulty when drawing it up let it soak some more in the water and draw it up again.

Family members and Visitors telling me HOW to do my job!!!
I wonder if validating their feelings would be helpful at all? For example saying something along the lines of "It sounds like you are concerned that staff are not providing the right care to your loved one?" or maybe "Are you concerned that I haven not performed a dressing change before?" This is how they taught us in the lpn program to respond to concerns...

Advice please - new to nursing
It may be difficult to get a job at a hospital as your first job as a CNA...at least that's the trend I was seeing from most of my classmates when I was at the tech college. The economy is slow right now of course, but working your butt off in a nursing home for 6 months and then applying to a hospital may be worth it to you. My classmates that held hospital CNA jobs got paid $14-16 an hour depending on the shift of course (not bad!) but they had started in LTC beforehand.

California Hospitals are not forward thinking!
Now I am an LPN and I was hoping if someone could explain this to me, but if you are a new RN can you get experience in a nursing home and then want to work at a hospital are you still considered a "new grad" to them? Does the hospital use the term new grad for those who are newly licensed or those who have never worked in a hospital setting? I'm just wondering how many people out there who refuse to work anywhere else except for their dream job at a hospital. Any new grads out in California who have had luck with LTC or home health positions or is it there just absolutely nothing out there?

Should I head for the hills???
Where did you get the idea that RNs don't deal with any of the "gross" stuff? There are many tech programs out there ie surgical tech, radiology tech, etc. that may be more suitable for you if you want to stay in healthcare. I think that you may want to think about the reasons you wanted to become an RN in the first place and see what other options are out there that have those same positive qualities without the body fluids. Maybe your dream job is in a completely different field altogether and I would suggest meeting with a college counselor that will help guide you to a career path that is right for you.

I'm bored!
If you work at a clinic will they be flexible with your school hours? Most ft clinic jobs are during traditional office hours, which might be nice but wont work if you have am clinicals once you are in the RN program. I wouldn't drive two hours to work and go to school...way too much work. Are you bored with the work itself or are you bored because there isn't that much to do? If you are bored because you get done with everything early then could you try to spend some 1:1 time with some of your patients, such as talking or playing a quick game of cards? When I did my clinicals at the clinic it was way more boring than at the LTC or TCU, because I had so much to do.

I don't mean to whine...
Even if you do find another job, it's always helpful to have a good reference from your last job. Follow the advice posted here and you will be seen as more professional, which in time will hopefully help with getting respect from the people who may be reporting you.

North Hennepin or Hennepin Tech??
I hear that it can take 1-2 years to get into NHCC and with HTC you can get in right away. Also, please understand that the new grad job market for RNs is extremely tough right now since most of the major hospitals have been laying off RNs. It is much easier to get a job as an LPN and I hear that it's easier to get into an RN program as an LPN. If you become an LPN first then get your RN later then the job market will have hopefully turned around so it will not be so bad, plus you will have the job security of being an LPN while you are in school and awaiting employment as an RN.

Disgusting Nurses!! SICK of my status as a CNA
If these nurses took so long to help you out since they were too busy, then I don't understand how they can have enough time on their hands to pull out a phone and take pictures of themselves. I feel so sorry for you and I hope that you continue with your career and find your dream job in a place that has respectful and competent healthcare staff.

I violated HIPAA while talking about the news!
You did not violate HIPAA when you were talking to your daughter, but in my opinion you are violating your daughter's privacy rights when you go on a public forum where people can figure out who you are and call your daughter an alcoholic and drug user.
