Duke ABSN Fall 2019
One of the good ways to find out if it’s what you want to pursue is by visiting the school on Visiting Day and see if the quality of their program justifies its high cost.

Yes, I got accepted to Columbia, JHU and DUSON. For me, I am not into gaining study abroad opportunities since I have done it before and I travel often. I also do not intend to learn medical Spanish since I already speak two more languages other than English. Both Columbia and JHU are more expensive than DUSON for their comparable programs (I don't mind whether it's a MSN or ABSN). And they are more than double the tuition for the ABSN program at OHSU! JHU adds another year of studies which is also something to consider. On the other hand, although Columbia a one-year program, its intensity is insane! I definitely don't think I can pursue much other things while I am in the program even being in a great city, plus I prefer a more balanced school life. So I am most likely going to choose DUSON and it's a good well-rounded university overall. For you, I think it really depends what your priorities are. Are you only focusing on nursing or want a more balanced school life? How much are you willing to pay or borrow loans? The higher the costs, the bigger the risks (Columbia is the most risky out of the 3). How much does the location matter to you? How intense can you handle the amount of course load? My ranking of intensities (from lowest to highest): OHSU --> DUSON --> JHU --> Columbia. What are your goals for nursing? For the clinical rotations at OHSU, I suggest you ask the current students and see how/where do they go and their thoughts about the quality of the program. Hope it helps.

Vaccination for clinical
It’s a good idea that you should stay away from a hospital setting if you don’t want to get vaccinated so that we won’t have another high-risk ‘patient’ we need to take care of. Oh and btw, you might still get tetorifice which have been extinct for 30 years but coming back again because people don’t let their kids vaccinate. Read:

If you fail on the NCLEX, it doesn’t matter how well-prepared you are as a nurse, or whether you have a MSN or a BSN or you overthink. You not be able to work as a nurse until you pass NCLEX. Period. As a school, there’s no excuse why your NCLEX rate is lower than others, whether it’s due to you over-enroll incompetent applicants (one would wonder why) or your own disorganized management unable meeting the demand of your crowds of study body.

@thaifood122 I completely agree with you and I’m in the same boat as you too. As someone who’s also in late 20s, a career changer, and who love international travel, I’d defintely choose financial freedom over prestige. In the end, the path and the salary as a nurse/NP would be similar no matter which route we take.

You are not missing much. Columbia’s lastest NCLEX passing rate is 88% from its website. It doesn’t seem to be a competitive program to get into anymore, but one that’s more money-driven due to its Ivy status and location in nyc. You will most likely end up working in the same settings as Columbia nursing graduates provided that you work hard in your state school. Good luck!
