  1. I work in Psych and I have dealt with a lot of these requests. First, in that situation, the patient will need to be reoriented. Its likely he doesnt know where he is, if he is saying his dog is lost. That means he likely has absolutely no idea what is going on. I would go over all of that with him. Answer any questions he has. Offer to allow him to call a family member for extra support and confirmation of the situation. Then, I would try to redirect him to a different task or form of entertainment. Patients often lose their grip on reality. We have to bring them back to it. Usually, through medication changes, they keep that grip in time. But until then, "Lost dogs" will keep happening. Lol Hope this helped!
  2. First, tell Nurse Ratchet to shove it! She sounds so egotistical. What God-Aweful behavior! That is no way to lead your nurses, no way to talk to patients, and belittling you to the doctor?! Girl, it is not you who is ignorant or incompetent. It's her. Why, I never!!! You diserve so much more respect than that. I swear most nurses aren't like she is. If you were my baby-nurse, I would make sure you knew how appreciated and smart you are. I think it's time for you to have a talk with the supervisor. If the supervisor lets that behavior persist, then it's time to find a new job, because no job is worth that kind of emotional strain.
  3. Congratulations! I am in a bridge program myself! I was quite nervous about doing it, at first, because of increased responsibility, and whatnot. But you have already been on MedSurg for years. Most big cities won't even let an LPN work anywhere in the actual hospitals, so you are already far ahead of the game. Good luck!
  4. It sounds to me like you have just enough fear. Being completely confident is not always the best thing. Fear keeps your ears perked up, and your eyes peeled. It keeps you questioning everything, and because of that you end up making a wiser decision. But if this feeling has really cost you the feeling of enjoying your job, maybe it is time for a change. Nursing involves so much responsibility. It can be such a huge weight that I wouldn't blame you for being eager to have off your shoulders. Good luck!
  5. I think it's great that you have such a passion for nursing. I love to chat about it. There is much to be fascinated by!
