I think your assuming that everyone who has applied (rejected, waitlisted, accepted) have all participated in this forum. This forum provides just a small snapshot of those who have applied to the program. And yes many people do get rejected even if they are qualified applicants. I think there is a preference for applicants from the state of Maryland but most graduate schools tend to give preference for in state individuals. It is likely because they want their nurse graduates to continue to live/work in the state of Maryland.

How can I figure out if nursing is right for me?
ShouldIBeNurse, Hope you are well on your way to making a career change. It seems that you have given the field a significant amount of time and energy. Like others have said at a certain point you have to make a decision. There are no guarantees in life. I think you should read up on a CNA's scope of practice. As a CNA you do not have the right to educate patients on their medical dx, tx, and etc. If a patient happens to know of a research study and believes it is relevant to their dx/tx they will be discussing that with the doctor/NP/PA, not a CNA. As an engineer, I assume that you are well read in research, however, your opinion on the research a patient presents (whether you are correct or not) is not needed, nor is it valued over the patient or even in general. This is because reading/interpreting research is not a CNA's job. If a patient doesn't want to vaccinate their child ( which is horrible, I know!) they will be discussing that with the healthcare provider not the CNA. If a patient is refusing life-saving care for personal/religious/etc reasons they will be discussing that with their healthcare providers not the CNA. Nurse.org shows a list of the job responsibilities of a CNA. As a CNA your job is to assist the nurse in anyway that they need. CNA's that work hard and are good at their job are wonderful assets to a healthcare team. However, it is a physically demanding job so make sure you are in good health. Based off your information you have given pursuing a CNA program a lot of thought. At this point you either have to pursue it or move on to another career that you feel you are better suited. Hey there! My application was completed on July 28th or the 29th. Everything was submitted I was waiting on the last letter of recommendation. I heard back August 14th. Like Scrubdub, I received an email a couple days after I had already checked my portal and read my acceptance letter. So it might be more efficient to check the portal. I haven't accepted my acceptance yet but I did receive and email to schedule an interview with the W2 program. Wishing those who have not heard the best! I hope you all get good news soon!! Also does anyone know how large the cohort is? I have looked everywhere and can't find it.

Hello Everyone! I applied for Fall 2019 and was waitlisted. It was disappointing but I did learn a lot about their admissions process. Even so, I decided to reapply for Spring 2020. Since we are nearing the end of August I thought I would share what I have learned over the past six months. Receiving an email stating that they received your application is neither a positive nor a negative, it just means that they have received your application. Acceptances are given via email with a follow-up phone call to discuss scholarships. In contrast, waitlist and rejections will be received by snail mail only. However, all acceptances, waitlists and rejections will ultimately receive the "official letter" in the mail. I would not check your email compulsively until the end of the month... At least thats what I am trying to do lol. In previous threads for Spring , people have received acceptances on Aug 31-Sep.2nd. Acceptances are given out in one big batch that generally spans 3 days in a row. Admissions decisions (waitlist or rejection) are delivered in separate batches after the initial acceptance decision release. If you don't hear in the first 3 days that admissions releases acceptances you probably were waitlisted or rejected. The waitlist does not move much. I was only aware of one person who was pulled off the Fall 2019 waitlist. It is possible that more were pulled off the list but it does not move as much as other waitlists. I am stating this information bluntly because I feel that the admissions process is so ambiguous. Everyone hears something different, or interprets the information different from the admissions office. I just know that if I had this information for the Fall 2019 cycle it would have saved me a lot of stress. I hope this information is useful and I wish everyone the best of luck!

Nurse as a Patient?
It sounds like you acted professional given the situation. I agree that she does indeed sound like a difficult patient. But maybe everyone could take a moment and ask the question, why... Instead of assuming she has a psychiatric illness maybe you could address the patient holistically. No one has the right to speculate about someone's mental health on just a soundbite of information. You stated she is a very kind person (outside of being a patient), the way she interacts with you and colleagues on a daily basis would be more telling of her mental health than when she is extremely sick. For your coworker who was fired, it is possible that they did indeed make mistakes or has consistently made mistakes in the past. Also, it is possible the patient has a history of nurses/doctors/etc making medical errors that negatively impacted her health or a loved ones. People and patients are a culmination of experiences that doesn't always make their behavior right but it is important to address why someone is acting a certain way. I can understand that it would be difficult to have a patient telling you how to do your job but I think there is much more to this story than your side. I do believe in the saying: your side, their side and the truth.

I called they other day for the same reason, they said you "may" be ok a day or two after the priority deadline but that is the most they are willing to extend. They did specify that after the 1st its up to the committee if they want to still consider you priority. GOOD LUCK!
