  9. Hey! When I first started in ICU, I watched Laura Gasparis' videos as well as icufaqs.org(outdated but really enjoyable reads). Once I was about 6 months in, I used the CCRN review powerpoints/videos through the AACN website as well as Barron's CCRN Exam book from Amazon. The CCRN went pretty smoothly! Once I passed that, I started studying for CMC. I used the book from Amazon called CMC Exam Secrets. It helped but also had a good amount of errors in the book and miscommunication. Passed CMC by a handful of questions but wow was that one more difficult in its knowledge to test basis. Hope this can help a little!
  10. I am scheduled for an interview on Feb 14th. Excited to see how this 4 hour process will be!
  11. Hey Cj! Because of the priority deadline application being put in, they are able to review your overall resume, skillset, and acknowledge that you are wanting it that bad to have it done early. When I started my interview, I had been ready to go into the interview and showcase myself, but she wanted to more talk of my personal accomplishments and then delved into how I am prepared for crna school in the hospital and outside the hospital. I first started with the hospital setting and talked of extracurricular classes and certifications past ccrn that I had gotten. While doing that, before she was able to ask more personal questions, I asked if I could still talk about my last patient and let her understand further of my passion and excitement where I work; how the RTs, residents, myself, and my preceptee came together to figure out and have great care for this pt. So in this case it was good because it was both cardiogenic and septic shock, low EF, ARDS, and starting to become MODS. I was able to talk of dobutamine(the receptors) titrated to SVO2(talking of delivery problems and hemoglobin), then levo to vasopressin, then from propofol to precedex, and then addition of milrinone. I was able to talk of the rationale behind the decision to change and what each was capable of changing and helping out. Then with the RT, we went through PCAC, then pressures were quite high so we tried doing a pyramid method of increasing the PEEP up and then sustaining before coming back down to see if oxygenation would improve, and ultimately switching to APRV because of the P/F ratio declining, which I was able to be educated further on. They truly want to see you excited to love being educated and working in a group of individuals to get the best out of each other. By putting in of how I learn best with teaching and with tactile/visual, they understood my study methods. All and all, go in and make the interview yours and do not falter because of nerves. Each interview will be quite different, but let them know of your weaknesses as well and how you are challenging yourself and making them strengths in the process. Good luck and keep bringing each other up int he process too =]
  12. Hey Alycat! I had my interview last thursday with the director and accepted her offer at the end of the interview. She was very personable and really wanted to know about who you were and then add in your skills and background to all answers to guide he interview the way you are strongest in. Be yourself and she then that you are capable of everything :)
