Congrats to you as well, I will be working at Banner Thunderbird, I actually had my last clinical rotation at Banner University and I really liked it, all the nurses there were really welcoming... will you let me know when you hear from Banner? I am hoping that they reach out by Friday

Yes I had an interview with Banner as well, the lady who hired me said that she was very interested in me but, she had to talk to the other recruiters before filling any positions (which i was worried about because I have heard plenty of people who interview with Banner get hired on the spot)... do you know when you should be expecting a phone call? My interview was last Wednesday and they called me Friday mid-afternoon with an offer.. I am such a worrier too! I went home that day and stressing myself out wondering if I got the job or not lol

Azsn4778, ASN, I actually start August 6th as well, although I received a call to schedule an appointment for the physical/OH I still have to set up an appointment with the recruiting specialist (to give them copies of my info) and I have called multiple times, left a voice mail, and emailed so I would say they are probably busy .. but if you don't hear anything by tomorrow I would call the person that hired you and let them know you still have not received anything and you want to make sure that you have everything ready so it does not push your start date back...

Hi, From my experience I was hired last Friday and one of the recruiting specialist contacted me yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon to set up an appointment for a physical and I was also sent some emails. I am not sure if they contacted me sooner because my start date is in a few weeks, do you know your start date is?

Hi AZBlueBell, Thank you! I start in a few weeks so I will be trying that schedule out, one of my good friends from nursing school got a job working nights shifts at the hospital and said she recommends Melatonin to help so I plan to try that as well! I really appreciate your advice, thank you!

Hi Ruby Vee, Thank you so much! I will definitely be trying that app out, I'm actually on the same page with you I struggled with ABGs so anything helpful for that will be great ... You brought up a great point about buying a bag that may or may not fit in a locker unfortunately, I had to retire my old nursing bag that I used for clinical/lab (it was one of those bags that the school gives you and started to fall apart) so I might just have to use an old backpack until I get situated into my job.. Hello everyone, I wanted to get some words of advice from my fellow nurses on here, I recently got hired into a New Grad position (I am so excited and thankful) and start orientation in less than a month. I wanted to to get a head start on prepping for what I may need prior to starting the program.. Firstly, do any of you have any nurse bags (totes or backpack) that you would recommend.. I briefly looked on Amazon and saw so many with good review but, wanted to see which ones have worked for you (and ofcourse I am looking for something that can be easily wiped down after shift) For those who started off on nights how did you transition into it, I have never worked nights before so any helpful tips would be awesome? I will be working in the Med Surg unit and in the mean time plan to brush up on topics/meds but, do any of you have any helpful books or pocket guides that you used for your first year of nursing? Any words of positive advice or recommendations you can give me would greatly appreciated!

Yes, it is definitely tough right now! I am not sure how far of a drive you are willing to go from the phx area but, I saw today that Banner Health opened some new grad positions as well as honor health, I would see if any of those interest you best of luck to you!

Yes! right after passing the NCLEX (first week of June) I put it about 20ish applications in (home healthcare, staffing agencies, new grad residencies, clinics, pretty much anything that didn't require prior nursing experience... I've gotten a handful of callback but, after doing some research and really thinking about it I didn't want to settle for job that was either gonna be too of a drive or wasn't going to give me as much training as a new grad position in the hospital would... so now I am just kind of waiting around I usually check 2 times a day to see if any new positions are open... have you already passed the NCLEX? I am suprised you are not getting any interviews, hospitals tend to like previous healthcare experience (alot of my peers who were PCTs had jobs right way)

Yes I graduated from a school in the phoenix area... I am not too sure if the hospitals take preference on new nurses who have had prior experience in their hospital.. I know that during interviews they have asked me if I have every had any clinical at their facility but, other then saying yes or no and how my experience was there I don't think it played a major factor in whether I got the job or not. I will say I know of 2 peers who were recognized by the charge nurse/manager during clinical's and were told to contact them after they graduated to apply for jobs (which they both got). Yeah right now it is a struggle, it seems like the only available ones are in Tuscon/Chandler/Yuma... I'm hoping for some New grad Residencies/programs in the hospital setting to hopefully open up in July/August, some of the peers who didn't get a job in the hospital setting have settled for home health care positions which might have to be option if nothing opens soon...

I have looked at Nurse Residency Programs in AZ and at the moment all of them are a good 3-4 hour drive away from me, I have considered applying for them but, like I said my car is not reliable.. I am just waiting around for one to open a little closer to me

When I had my interview with banner it was 27 and some change also with 18% shift differential

From my cohort I knew several peers who applied and interviewed at jobs prior to taking the NCLEX and they got the job. I know for Banner new grad experience they want to know when your test date is.. But I am in the same position I am having a hard time finding places to apply at, it's pretty much a waiting game for New grad positions to open up.. Best of luck
