  1. I was in a car accident back in 2/05. As a result, I have a perm disability that states I can't lift greater than 15# with my right arm that results in my elbow above my shoulder. Basically, anything that causes the ligaments along the right side of my neck/clavicle to "stress". I only graduated with my ADN in 2002. I worked in cardiac progressive care for 2 years after graduation. After that, I transferred to our home health department. I was on my way to see a patient when I hit black ice and slide into oncoming traffic. The end result, I can't do floor nursing or home care ever again. I am searching for a career direction. I am scheduled to begin completion of my BSN in August/06. I have almost 10 years of general mgmt experience prior to becoming a nurse. One of the things I have found is a program to get my CLNC. Does anyone know anything about that? What about nursing informatics? Any other suggestions would be great appreciated!! Oh, I have checked physician offices. They don't seem to hire RN's in this area unless they can assist in surgery or are rounding nurses. I have been told I didn't get in enough experience prior to the accident.
  2. Hi! My husband and I have decided to move to Florida. I am a Florida native that was actually born in FWB at Eglin, but I grew up near Ocala. My husband is retired USAF and we loved that area of Florida. Any suggestions on good areas to live in? We have decided we want to buy an inexpensive mobile home to put a large amount of money in the bank. We do have three children in school. Any school information? We have researched all the statistics but are hoping for some local insight. What about good places to eat when we go down to visit? Thanks for all your help!
  3. Thank you so much for all of the advice! I have copied the typical interview questions to review. I found quite a bit of relief in knowing that my resume is comparible to the examples. I also put together a portfolio with all of the information listed. This has been very helpful! Thank you!

  5. Hi. Does anyone know what specialty oversees thoracic outlet syndrome? Does anyone know any effective treatments? I was in a bad MVA in Feb/05 and am now being diagnosed with this. They are concerned for my ability to lift patients and other assorted physical tasks. I was not aware of this diagnosis before this. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  6. I will be moving to FL from MI. Does anyone know about how long it takes to get license in FL and are you able to work in the state you are currently licensed in until your FL license comes through?
  7. Thanks for writing. My accident was a little different. I was T-boned on the right side by a car going about 60 mph. My neck twisted and snapped. I have had to have radiofreqency to kill the nerves in that area. I am learning to live with it. I would suggest that you get checked for facet joint syndrome. It is the most commonly missed whiplash injury. It can only be diagnosed using anesthetic injections into the facet joints. I would encourage you to talk to your doctor. Since the RF, my neck is feeling much better for now. My numbness concerns me because of my lack of ability to feel for proper placement during CPR. I will check into your suggestion!! Thank you!
  8. Thanks, Tweety! I have already had some sticker shock! I have been looking online. I will probably end at the farthest point from the beach!! But, oh well.
  9. Thank you for the help. I don't know if an apartment will work. My husband and I have three kids. I think housing is flying up everywhere!! Do they have large apartments down there?
  10. I encourage you to check the cost of living where you are considering nursing. I live in an area where "view of the bay is half the pay" and they mean it! You can't really afford to live here on a nursing wage. I live near Traverse City, Michigan. The wages range here from $18-$25 per hour but the average cost of a 3/2 family home here is $200 thousand. Hope that helps!
  11. I was in a bad car accident on my way to see a patient in 2/05. My experience was that we were told that we could refuse to see patients if the roads were bad. However, if we tried to get them changed, we had to deal with a lot of heat. Everyone just "knew" we couldn't. As a result of the accident and time off, I have lost my job, benefits and was dropped by work injury, saying my cervical injury that I have now is different than the cervical injury I had when they were treating me a few months ago. Has anyone else dealt with a similar situation? I am not sure what to do. I do have a permanent neck injury. I am scheduled this week for an EMG to find out if the numbness in my right arm/hand is perm nerve damage. This test will determine whether or not I can ever do patient care again. I am planning to finish my BSN starting the beginning of the year. I am looking to find a career in nursing that I can do with the right arm numbness. Any suggestions? Unfortunately, I was only a floor nurse for 2 years before I switched to home care. The lack of experience is working against me. I would really appreciate any information you guys can give. Thank you.
  12. I will be moving to Largo, FL soon. I am a native of FL and miss living there. Does anyone have any opinions of the healthcare system there? Does anyone know what the going wages are? Any suggestions for area to live? Thanks for your help!
  13. I also worked as a home health nurse! Way to stand up for yourself! I am also a cardiac nurse and strongly agree with the cardiac concern related to digital stimulation!
