  1. I'm a new grad RN that is working in the ED. I was a tech in the same dept for about 6 months before graduating. I did my practicum in the ED and now I'm on orientation as a new RN. My hospital just changed their orientation policy for new grads. They only offer 7 weeks of orientation. My director does not agree with that change and has said that if after the 7 wks, if I feel that I'm not ready yet, I could extend that orientation time. My 7 weeks ended this week. I am horrible at second guessing myself, but I work with a fantastic group of nurses, techs and Doctors. I have no problem asking for help or asking questions if I'm not knowledgable at what I'm doing. I'm afraid that if I ask for the extension, my co-workers and director will start doubting my abilities. I'm afraid that if I dont ask for the extension, I'm going to take on more than I can handle. What should I do?
  2. I used the Kaplan and the Med Publishing book and really liked both of them. I went through alot of study questions and if I didn't know the disease process that I was being asked about, I went back to teh review books and read up on it. that seemed to work for me. I live on the Treasure coast and I took my test on the 29th in Deerfield. My test ended somewhere in the 70's. I found out on the 31st that I had passed. My license is still not up on the BON, but I was told that the "Unofficial" results are really Official so I don't think I have anything to worry about. Good luck to everyone that still has to take theirs!
  3. I took my NCLEX on the 29th, paid the extra $8 and found out on Saturday that I passed! I have never been so relieved! the computer shut off on me somewhere in the 70's. i stopped looking after 67 and it shut off soon afterwards. It was my first time, and I know I could have just taken it again in a few weeks, but I already had a job lined up that depended on me passing as they do not accept GN's. Now I'm legal and will be starting in 2 weeks! Good luck to everyone that is gearing up to take theirs! Just stay relaxed and read the questions thoroughly.
  4. I'm in FL and scheduled for May 29th. The closer it gets, the more nervous I become. I'm studying with Hurst Reviews and Meds Publishing. I see alot of pple reviewing with Kaplan, and I used that all through Nursing school. Good luck to everyone!
  5. I graduate next week (YAY!). The best advice I can give you is to apply as a tech, intern, or whatever your local region calls a person in nursing school. You apply for that position in an ER department and then you have your foot in the door. This way you become known to your nursing director, you learn the way things go, and you can make an impression on the other nurses in your department. Their opinion of your work ethics and ability and to handle the ER stress could be your key to getting hired in that dept. I have been working as an Intern in the ER for a while now and I also did my Practicum in the ER. The ER is the only place that I have ever wanted to be and now my director is just waiting for me to pass my boards. Most ER departments will not allow you to work as a Grad Nurse, or atleast not in my area. Good luck and I hope you attain your goals.
