  1. I do the same thing. Once I miss one question I get so disheartened and begin to blank! What's helped me the most is to stop being so hard on myself. By not getting so upset, I prevent myself from going into panic mode and can then continue to think critically. Granted I'm still in prereqs, I'm sure I'll have the same struggles during clinical. Even now if I don't know an answer that I feel I should know I get SO upset with myself and freeze. I've been working hard on it and have come a long way. Just tell yourself (and truly believe) that it's okay not to know everything and look at it as a positive learning experience.
  2. Take whatever job you can land, since it sounds like jobs are tough to come by without a BSN in your area. Nothing is impossible if you are determined and motivated to make it happen, and it certainly seems like you have the passion and drive to make it happen!
  3. I would definitely encourage you to apply to every school. I made the mistake of assuming I was a strong candidate (3.8 GPA, As in my sciences, and 91st percentile for TEAS ) and now I'm sitting on a wait list Had I applied to the other two local colleges that are known to have easier admissions, I'd likely have a spot right now instead of waiting to know if I got in at all. It never hurts to apply to multiple schools. I learned the hard way!
  4. I had a 3.8 GPA (As in AnP and Chem and every elective complete with only my core nursing classes left to take). I received a 83% on the TEAS, which put me in the 91st percentile (TEAS 6 has about a ten point lower average score than the TEAS 5). Still I was waitlisted at my community college ( OCC in Syracuse, NY). Advisors were shocked and told me there's nothing I did wrong and nothing they'd recommend improving (even though I likely will) and that I was a very strong applicant and they were very surprised. They insisted I must be high on the wait list but nothing is guaranteed since they don't disclose what ranking is. My school is based off points; no essays or interviews. My point is, I thought I was very likely to get in and yet....here I am. Apply to multiple schools and do every little thing possible to get in! Every point matters! Good luck!
  5. I left school in 8th grade. I then did online homeschooling but I'll be honest; I was a kid still and did NOT take it seriously. I ended up getting my GED. Since then I obtained a degree in Networking Technology. Then went back and took prereq's for Nursing school, received all A's (chem, AnP, Med term, ethics). I just applied with a 91 on my TEAS and every other elective and non-NUR core class completed with an A! I just applied March 1st to start this Fall. I'm a strong canidate but still will be anxiously awaiting my acceptance letter (bc hey, ya just never know for sure). My point is, if I can do it then YOU can do it! I never took a single remedial class. I self taught myself everything to place directly into college level or to totally test out (algebra was the only test out class and I received a 84 on the elementary algebra accuplacer. The math looked like another language to me. WAY harder than the TEAS but I set out to teach myself the material and I suceeded!) Please, do not give up! If this is your goal then you will never be truly happy until you prove to yourself you can complete it. Never let insecurities call the shots in your life. They are NOT qualified to do so! YOU CAN DO THIS!
