Nursing at FTCC
It is good that your getting anatomy and physiology done now, because it can be intense if you try to do it with nursing classes. When we applied we had to have our CNA so I work in home care, but another job you could try for that would get you into the hospital system and be flexible with school would be as a sitter at the hospital. It would give you good practice in working with some patients!

When you meet they are going to discuss a little bit about the program and show you a powerpoint I think (I can't remember a lot about the meeting). I think they give you the curriculum sheet and go over it with you and then tell you so many people applied and out of that only x amount will get in. As long as you passed your TEAS and have your pre-requisite classes I think you will be perfectly fine! I know you are nervous, but try to channel it into getting some more experience! Do you work as a CNA right now? Maybe you could find a part time job and get some experience while you do school to add to your resume eventually :) You've got this!

Well I remember I was super nervous about getting in too! I think they have changed the points system since I got accepted, but I can tell you not to worry too much! The accepting is not bad, once you get the invite to meet it's pretty much a go from there that you'll be accepted! They took a lot of students last semester, so I think you have a pretty good chance! There are several of my classmates who are fresh out of school (having done the prereqs) so I think your chances are pretty good! What are you nervous about?

Nursing at FTCC
Hello and congratulations on getting into the program! I graduate in May and hopefully am posting in time to answer some of your questions. The program was unorganized when we started to a point. It was hectic, but it was also a big transition into a type of program I never experienced before. Instead of go to class kind of study and your good it became a do it yourself. You need to bring yourself to the plate and make sure you understand the material because no one is going to hold your hand. Faculty are wonderful, but they are getting used to the transition in programs (going from one nursing class to a new one in Jan.). So I think the program is disorganized because it is something new they are doing. You will have your exams online as opposed to paper and scantron. One of the biggest complaints I hear from fellow peers is when a question seems unfair on an exam, and everyone agrees so but the instructors won't change it. As I have progressed the program has gotten better, we used to be unsure of what to study for but I think they have worked on that and now with the learning objectives/exemplars it is much clearer what should be focused on. (It also means that I have grown as a student and learned how to study). I think the faculty is working very hard to put together a program that you will do well in. But there is a transition period, and hopefully you will get a good experience too! If you have any more questions feel free to ask!

I love that suggestion! Thank you very much. After speaking with an instructor I also decided to include more work experience (animal related), and professional development which included my foaling internship with horses. What are your thoughts on having a resume that is more than 1 page as a new graduate?

First time posters
Davey Do, you have me laughing with that troll! I was a lurker for a while before I decided to join allnurses, and I love the community here! I especially love the thread going about the most disgusting work stories in humor. Hopefully I graduate in May and can join in with some work stories of my own!

First time posters
As a first time poster, I appreciate the wisdom and experience that each of you have. I posted once asking for my resume to be critiqued, and I truly appreciate any of the comments made. I would love any advice, and the truth is the nursing world is one where you need to get used to critiques. Hopefully in the future, more people will value the comments made when they asked for a response. Not everyone can handle being critiqued, but for a lot of us new posters we came here for the help and treasure your replies! So please don't ignore our posts, some of us really do want the advice.

Hello, I am a current ADN program student hoping to graduate this May! I would love to get you're advice on my resume. I worked on it using the "new RN graduate" templates, and am going to seek additional advice from my instructors. Any critique is welcome, thank you for your time! Some of the format changed from the way I have it on Microsoft word, but unfortunately I cannot post the file here. This contains all of the information in my resume currently. (see next post)
