A little late but for others who want to know....REVIEW OF MSN @ GWU You will pay a lot of money in tuition to teach yourself (if you have the time) after you have spent the majority of time checking the boxes on dumb assignments that don't really teach you the material. The instructors are just glorified assistants who grade your assignments and comment on the syllabus but rarely teach you anything of value. I am pretty disappointed in the amount of tuition I spent :\. I would consider another school that has a less well-known name so at least you won't feel like you are wasting your money. The advanced patho course at least provided videos from the PA school so that was more helpful. In pharm you spend much of your time proving that you can look at a pharm book and regurgitate information on a weekly tracker of side effects, dosages, and monitoring parameters. It leaves little time to actually study. I only got my assignments reviewed once every three weeks in pharm so if I was doing something wrong then I was docked 3 weeks worth of grades (not cool). EBP is an absolute awful joke where "every week builds on the next" to analyze articles for a poorly designed course that taught nothing of new value beyond a BSN EBP course. There is a group grade and if you get stuck with people who work full-time, have a family, or don't care, you will be stuck carrying the group. Genetics was interesting and the instructor posted legit lecture videos which were great! I was grateful that a theory course was not required (again like other MSN programs.) I highly doubt it would be any different than a BSN level theory course (aka waste of time). At least genetics was something new and useful. The discussion board assignments in genetics also serve as the quiz which is actually helpful because you end up knowing what you need to learn. Advanced assessment feels like pharm in the sense that you will have to teach yourself a lot AFTER you have wasted time doing assignments that aren't as helpful. I was accepted into Georgetown as well and declined because I thought GWU would be a better value but I wish I had looked closer at Simmons or something more affordable. I had a 3.9 GPA during my BSN at a different institution. I managed a 3.9 GPA during my first semester at GWU while working full-time (it was rough...do not recommend unless you are secure enough to allow yourself to be a B and C student) but I don't feel I learned a lot. I just proved that I can tell them what they want to hear and check boxes. You are told that you be will assigned a clinical coordinator to help you keep track of clinical and....that never happened. GWU seems like they just want to do as little as possible to maximize their profit margins. Womp womp. This is just my experience thus far. Others may have better feedback.

Hi JNelly, I only applied to UCCS so I don't know much about Pueblo. However, I've heard they have a great program as well. I suppose another benefit is that it's shorter? UCCS does have a mental health rotation in Pueblo. I'm not sure how it works exactly, but it seems plausible that we may have to drive to Pueblo occasionally. Ah okay! Crossing my fingers for you. The email I have says we have to respond by February 13th 5:00pm. So hopefully you will get your acceptance letter shortly after that. I imagine some people applied and got accepted to multiple locations, or some out of towners may decide to attend elsewhere. I think your chances are good!

Hey, I know 2 years seems daunting, but I would say that's realistic. It took me 2.5, but I worked full-time in order to pay for it. I also took courses I didn't necessarily need like Organic Chem II and Trigonometry. I had a friend that quit his job and he cruised through the prereq's although he received a few Bs. I was set on getting As. Time passes whether you want it to or not, so 2 years from now, you might be applying to nursing school or wishing you had. I think UC Denver had a shorter list of pre-reqs. You might want to check that one out, I do not know this for sure, but it seems more competitive to me, since it's such a big school. UCCS had a few extra pre-reqs that others did not require, like Nutrition (but at least that was an easy A). Regis had a few religious course requirements that I wasn't thrilled about.

Hello, My mom went through their program years ago when she was in her 40s. She was never a great student when she was younger, but she passed the course and passed the exam on her first try. Quite a few people dropped out throughout the program due to the intensity. The school does have a great reputation in the area. Best of luck!

Hello, I am also from Colorado and I just applied to the ABSN program at UCCS. I live in the Springs so it was most convenient for me, but I also found their website very welcoming. You should google their page and check it out. I studied political science in my undergrad. The ABSN program is for students that already have a bachelors, so usually that means a non-nursing degree. A business degree will absolutely not impair your ability to get invited for an interview. If anything, that is a unique background that will translate well into the healthcare field, while offering diversity and a different perspective. I just had my interview btw, and my cumulative GPA was lower than yours despite my 3.9 math, science, prereq GPA. Apparently UCCS only looks at the cumulative GPA and they put a lot of emphasis on the HESI. I score very high on the HESI so I think that's what really stood out. They also do not accept recommendation letters, or ask about experience in order to get to the interview. Therefore, don't let a program's requirements in a different state affect your decision to take the plunge. There is a school in Denver (I think MSU Denver) that looks at the last 60 credits, and they do give points for taking courses at their university. They also award a point to candidates if they are CNAs. I would start looking at the ABSN programs in Colorado and give that a shot. For me, I found UCCS to be better fit for my credentials. I will find out in 2 weeks if I made it into the program! ABSN programs (in Colorado that I know of) UCCS CSU Pueblo Regis University UC Denver MSU Denver Good luck!! For me, it has been one of the best decisions of my life and I don't regret any of it, even if I do not get accepted (although I feel pretty confident).

Hi there, I had a friend who had her ASN. Her dream was to work in a hospital in Colorado, but she was having a very hard time getting hired by hospitals. She worked in home health for 8 years. Finally, she came across one hospital that was willing to hire her with her ASN. If pursing the ASN suits your lifestyle now, perhaps you could consider an online program to go from ASN to BSN? If you don't mind working in home health, ASN might be just fine for you while you save some money to go on to round 2. I personally like to get things out of the way, so I'd go for the BSN straight from the start, but everyone is different and there is nothing wrong with an ASN. I'd say it depends on your personality, where you want to work, and whether you think you could tolerate a longer program etc. Good luck!

What things would you have to do in the weeks before? Is it possible you could hire a coordinator to take of any last minute things for you like making sure the vendors have the schedule etc. Will you have to miss Friday before the weeekend? Do you know your school's policy on missed lecture or clinicals? Also, if the program is longer like a 16 month program instead of 12 months, perhaps there is more room built in so that you would be able to recover more easily. I vote for applying to Fall 2018 and Spring 2019. This way you can make the decision once it comes closer, but you will still keep your options open. I would hope that if you are missing 1 day of class for your own wedding, which is a once in a lifetime event, your instructors would be willing to work with you, especially if you are an A student. You never know how strict people might be, however. You could also try looking up the student handbook for each program to see if there is information of absences.

You could try downloading an app that turns off the blue light on your cell phone. My understanding is that blue light in particular is the kind that can keep your brain going and make it more difficult to fall asleep. Some apps also have timers you can set too. This way you can still use your phone if you wanted to. I use the dimly on my android.

Congratulations on your achievements! And hats off to you for believing in yourself and not being afraid to move or venture somewhere unknown. I am still a hopeful nursing student, but it is always encouraging to read of others' successes. Best of luck to you.

Hello, I found the questions to be similar in style however, they were not exactly the same. The more exposure you can give yourself, the better. I answered some questions and seconds and took a whole minute to answer others. There were some tricky ones for me that required me to really think about them. I ended up getting a 100% on the A&P section, even though I felt it was the hardest for me. I probably over stressed about the test as well. Try to relax, be confident in your studying, and do the best you can. That's all you can do. Best of luck!!

Hi! It looks like I have to have 15 quality posts before I can PM someone but I made this account simply to respond to your post, so I'm far from that. That's awesome about your friend. I bet we read the same things, but it seems like the HESI is worth quite a lot, more than the GPA, which may work to our favor. I'm in the same boat as you. I have a lower GPA, but a competitive HESI score. One of the admissions counselors I spoke to over the Summer said that they confirmed that a "competitive" HESI score was a 90 or above in every category. She also told me that that every year they have a few with lower GPA's that do really well on the HESI and get in. I do not know what they consider a "lower" GPA and I do not know what "really" well means on the HESI. I imagine they must accept some people with under 3.0 GPAs otherwise they wouldn't say the minimum is 2.5. Best of luck to you, too! I am crossing my fingers for us both! Keep your phone off silent!

I took A&P 2, Micro, Statistics, and Nutrition while working part-time and I got a 4.0 last semester. One of my lab partners in Microbio previously dropped Microbio because she had a hard time taking it with A&P at the same time. She also worked part-time. She ended up getting a B in Microbio this past semester. It depends on what type of student you are and what is difficult/easier for you or what you enjoy. If you are motivated, you will be able to pass both. Whether you get A's or not depends on other individual factors. Best of luck!
