How do you decompress?
I am currently in school and I found the stress had made my under control anxiety and panic peep its ugly head into the realm of no control. I work currently as an STNA on an adolescent psychiatry unit and decided to actually pay close attention to some of the coping techniques we teach the kids. I have developed a great list of skills to "cope in the moment", and ways to unwind when I am in a "mood" as I am usually bubbly and upbeat. 1. Music. One of the things we teach the kids is to have a playlist based on each emotion they feel and songs to help bring them out of it. Example, so when I am in a tizzy my playlist starts out with crashing classical music and with each progressive song it becomes more calming and relaxing. This way you progressively go from the emotion you are currently feeling to a better place. 2. Mandalas & Zendoodling (also know as zentangles). This has been my go-to when in class and I may get extremely anxious or panicked but can not necessarily just leave where I currently am. In the corner of a notebook or scrap paper, I start making a mandala, which simply consists of repetitive shapes around a circle (you draw the circle, then four line top, bottom, and each side, then you can add lines in between each or build from the original four, I stick to simple shapes like C, S, ^, ~, triangles, and circles). Zen doodling is extremely calming for me and I literally will draw zen doodles in anything. There are tons of videos on youtube of how to make these. 3. Essential Oils. I have a small roll on with essential oils in that help ease me. My favorite combination is lavender, bergamot, sweet orange, lemon, and grapefruit oil. I just rub a little behind my ears and at my wrist. I am a nail biter and it stops me from biting because I will smell it as I am going to bite and focus on the scent. 4. When I do get home physical activity, specifically for me dancing helps. I literally will put on some of my favorite music and dance around the house. If I need something more intense I have a Wii and a Beach body on demand subscription and between just dance and Shaun T dance workouts not only do I get in a good burn but I also feel refreshed after. 5. Nature and animals. I sit in my office and study with the windows open and a nature show on mute on TV, the diffuser with some of my favorite oils (Nature's Remedy Invigorate which is Lime, Cedarwood, Lavender, and Copiaba it is a premixed oil for my diffuser), and a Spa playlist from google. Literally creates a relaxing yet concentrated environment for me, and when a break is needed I can look up see a few animals (BBC shows are my preferred) and then back to work.

Are Certified Midwifes still Prevelent in the U.S?
I am in the same position as you. I have this raging burn of passion for helping mothers and babies and saw Midwifery as my way to do it. I am currently in the second semester of my ADN program and hold a BS in another major. I had thought of going from RN, ADN to CNM as a bridge but have been rethinking the idea. I have been trying to network with a midwife at my local hospital with no such luck. I would like to connect with someone who is a current midwife. Well, I am going to follow this thread in the hope of getting some answers!

BLANK Template for Med Cards, pharmacology, drug cards, medication
I am not asking for my homework done for me or I would just use the cards available on here that are done. I have already have quite a set but would like a form to fill them out in so they are best and consistent. Not sure how that is someone doing my homework for me. I didn't ask for someone to fill them out with my medical list but for a blank template. I have googled how to make my own template and maybe my tech savvy isn't as good as I assumed because I was unable to find one that print blank properly. The card here are not really in a printable format either because guess what, removing the info we the first thing I tried, that prevented it from printing properly. I'm wondering at the purpose of your comment since there was no real advice offered. Get off the high horse you were a student one and I'm sure you needed help some where asking the lines, being condescending I'm sure wouldn't have been helpful to you as a student when asking for help and it sure isn't helping me any.

BLANK Template for Med Cards, pharmacology, drug cards, medication
So I have tried and maybe it's my lack of knowledge of my Mac book and printer together but I am truly having a hard time printing them on my 5x8 index cards. I tried a couple YouTube videos and they were fails plus wasted cards. I am at a loss on how to get something correctly sized and stationary to print on my index cards.

First semester- feels like drowning
So this is a "What I wish I knew before my first nursing course" post. I am currently in my second 8 week course of this semester (Concepts 1 and Pharm 1), I passed my Fundamentals class with a 89%. I say that because I put in serious work for every point in that class. I failed my first exam, and was able to come back and still maintain a B average. I want to point out things that my fellow students who also did not score well did and how we improved for the following exams. Some of these tips I received from current nurses and it truly helped me get through. Things I Did to Improve Find out you learning and studying style. BEFORE classes start. This is the best way to set your self of for success. I am a visual and audio learner and I study best by studying alone first, rewriting material in concept map form then going to study group session only after I have studied on my own. You can find out your learning style with a quiz, using google.Youtube is your friend. There are dozens of nurses with youtube channels catering to nursing students. My personal favorite channels are RegisterNurseRN , Nurse bass, and Justine G. Feather (has a great video on studying with concept maps). I also look at channels with A&P information when I need to brush up on a system using Khan Academy and Crash Course. My teacher also assigns some of these videos for pre-lecture assignment.TAKE NCLEX QUESTIONS FROM DAY ONE!! Even if you don't know the answer, read the rationale, when you finish a chapter find NCLEX questions on the material. My school uses Pearson MyNursingLab and it has tons of questions directly from our textbooks. There are dozens of free resources such as www.nurseslabs.com & Just a moment... . It is never too early, and my program tests us in that same style for all of our courses. I took questions everyday on the topics from class.DO NOT DO THESE THINGS Over Study, too much of anything is a bad thing including studying. That first test I literally was studying everyday all day. It is best to pace yourself, set tasks on what material you will cover that day, and set a time frame. I also created an 19 page study guide for our first exam, it was only 40 questions. The SG had more information that what our learning objectives was asking. Not utilizing the resources at hand. Our syllabus had objectives for each day for the readings assigned and what we would be doing in class. Most of us didn't realize to use that as a study guide until our currently class. It basically gave us what would be on the test.Trying to study more information than what is required. If you teacher assigns specific pages, just read those. You have more that enough to get through!I hope this helps someone!

BLANK Template for Med Cards, pharmacology, drug cards, medication
Hi All, I have filtered through several post, and after some trial and error on my part I am looking for a BLANK template to write out my medication cards. It is required for my program that my cards are hand written, I would just like a typed template on one sheet of paper with two cards per page preferably. The mandatory information categories I need are: Classification, Prototype (Generic, Trade), Therapeutic effects and uses, Actions, Adverse reactions/Food interactions, Nursing Implications before and after administration. Please do not send me cards already filled out. I have the information using the resources required for my course and pre-filled out cards will not be helpful in for my assignment or for my learning style. I appreciate the effort people put into such things and sharing, however that is not what I am asking for.
