nclex question
I have heard of some schools doing that but now fewer are. It depends on what you really want to do. The school that I am most fimliar with allowed their students to take the boards after the completion of the third semester. Personnally I think I could have waited until the last semester. From a financial point it is a waist of money. Because in 6-8 month you have the opportunity to sit for the RN boards. As far as being to much consider your life style (family, job and other commitments), then think will you have enough time to study for the boards and get a job as an LPN, go through orientation and continue with your RN studies. For what its worth I was an LPN for 16 years before becoming an RN. Stick with RN.

A question for moms...
I agree with marinemommy. It's all about how define spending time with your kids. In todays world lots of mom work out of need and wanting to care for self. (men don't come with a guarantee). In our society women are taught that they are less of a parent if they work outside the home. I want my kids to love me and their father unconditionally. They do not feel he is less of a father becasue he goes out to work. I want to get the same happy face and hugs when I walk through the door. I have done both I did the stay at home thing first. I really did not feel that I was an active contributor to the home. Once I started working my self esteem just sored and my husband says he could tell a big difference in me. Go with your heart and don't feel guilty with the choice you make.

Betty Johnson hospital in Dunn
I Have worked there but I went to a social that was given in June for people who were considering working there. The person in charge of hiring or selecting who get a interview said that, she can tell by your Resume or Application if you would fit in and if she feels that you are not going to fit in then you will not get a call. It sounds a little clickish to me. Yet the have an ad in the paper daily for nurses.Talking about eating young at least most place allow you to selected as a feast first.

Smoking bans in and around NC hospitals
I agree with the no smoking policy or ban, and so many of you bring up lots of things to think about. I personally have a problem with nurses who smoke and take advantage of nurse who don't for example, Can you watch my patient while I go smoke? They leave the floor right after report and take a smoke break. If you are allowed 2 fifteen minute smoke breaks then smoker are well over that. Then there is the nurse who sprays herself with perfume or puts on perfumed lotions to cover it up. This gives me migrane headaches.I should not have to endure this either, I don't know which one is worse. I would like to have a smoker watch my patient while I go take a fresh air break. So there are a lot of issue as far as smells that need to be looked at, the perfume issue does not only apply to nurse but everyone in the facility. I am against not hiring because a person smokes. Though I am not a smoker I feel that alcohol is much more dangerous.(Drunk drivers) but this will never become a issue thanks to politician.

Maybe stationed at Ft Bragg...have questions
I am a recent grad from the community college,I had over 16 years as an LPN, I am student at Fayetteville State in the RN-BSN program. It is an accredited program and they have also recieved accreditation for the generic program. This is pilot program so all the kinks are not out yet but they are making strides. As an older student who has taken and passed the state boards I think the program is just fine( I don't need the added stress) there was enough while taking the boards. There is a lot of journaling and papers, but I have a friend that attends East Carolina, the course are the same and she also says that they also do a lot of journaling. In my opinion it is a refresher nothing to hard (Patho is the hardest this semester). I hear some of the generic students complain but this is college and with all colleges you really teach yourself the instructors give you the information needed for testing, also some of the courses are online.
