Prospective CA nursing student here. NYC is probably similar to CA in terms of difficulty finding a RN position as a new grad nurse. Your options are limited because you can't drive, but I'd suggest you to get a PCT/Clerk/CNA position at any hospital NOW. Also, I have heard great things about the RN-BSN program from UT Arlington. You take BSN courses online in 5 week sequences and you can finish it in less than a year. Having that "BSN in progress" on your resume will help.

Still no signs of the packet

You're in California since you mentioned the BOGFW. If you qualify for the BOGFW then you're most likely low-income. You have loan options depending on your degree status. If you don't have a BS/BA yet, you still qualify for subsidized & unsub fed loans. If you already have a BS/BA, you can qualify for $12500 unsub fed loan per academic year.

I spoke with someone from the office and they said it was another two weeks of waiting for the generic students but they should be sending the packets out for career ladder students soon!

Apply to both then figure out which option is the best once you're accepted. It seems arrogant to even consider your options when you haven't even taken the TEAS. I hope I'm not coming off as a mean person, but it's the truth. I knew of some people who were super confident they would score well on the TEAS to only end up in the low 70s (which will make it difficult to get into any school). When you do get accepted, choose the one you can afford. You probably shouldn't go into a lot of debt because you have your family to think about. Personally, I'd do the LVN-RN route while you work per diem throughout the program then a RN-BSN online. It's about the same time frame when you consider it all. The LVN-RN is 12 months and the RN-BSN is 15 months so 27 months total. You can totally work as a RN while completing your BSN online too.

Community college programs have state accreditation and universities have national accreditation. Don't worry about it too much just know that they're accredited and it'll allow you to take the NCLEX. As for the ADN-BSN collab program at CSULA, they accept students with previous bachelors. I know a few people in that program who already have their BS/BA already. It may not be a wise option to go this route though if you start nursing school in Spring as opposed to Fall. You'll lose your "new grad" status by then. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure on this.

It depends what classes the Ws are in. If they are in the sciences then you might have a problem, but if they were psychology or something similar then it's probably fine. I had like 5 W's on my transcript. They were for classes that I didn't need so I stopped showing up and realized that I needed to drop before I received a failure mark lol.

If I were in your shoes I would choose CSU Sacramento because you'll likely be able to build your network there and find a better paying job compared to if you were to move to SoCal. But I told CSULB students have opportunities to contract with Long Beach Memorial Hospital before even graduating so that's a plus for CSULB.

You need a minimum of 3.0 to apply for most ABSN programs in California. Your 3.3 GPA is actually the average for most of the accepted students for private schools so you'll be fine. You just need to do really well in your prerequisites, score in the 99% percentile on the TEAS, and get some healthcare experience if you want to apply for competitive ABSNs like CSULA.

I received the same email. I was told the orientation is no longer in person, but rather online now!

I'm surprised you're an alternate because you pretty much have a near perfect score with your stats...

She just started worrying about it yesterday and it's an extended weekend so she's worrying even more haha but I agree she should contact the schools she wants to attend. I will update this once she updates me!
