  1. Thanks everyone for the helpful and informative responses.
  2. It's more me helping my mom as she is doing everything for him, and it is taking a toll on her as she is disabled and has a lot of medical problems herself.
  3. Hello all, My mom's boyfriend was diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier this year and he was supposed to get surgery scheduled to remove it. It was stage 2 I believe so fairly treatable but they haven't been able to get the surgery scheduled. I guess due to the doctors not accepting his insurance or something. It keeps dragging on and I don't understand why it's taking so long. It's a serious thing that needs done... and now they are saying they think it may have spread and needs another MRI. If they did the surgery already it wouldn't have spread..... I feel very frustrated and don't know what to do or how to help. Anyone else been through this or seen this happen? What should we do? I feel like he is falling through the cracks and I can't believe this is allowed to happen.
  4. I am also going from IN to FL. I completed the application and just did my fingerprints today (was a hassle figuring out where I could go being out of state). I think I have everything done, will double check. Also from Tampa originally! :)
  5. Hello everyone, just wanted to get some advice. I have been a nurse for 2 years now, all 2 years in the ER. I want to start travel nursing and have been talking to different companies. I've already applied for a FL license, where I plan to set up my home base and take my first assignment. I just don't know how to tell if I really am ready and will be successful. With 2 years experience, I feel good about the typical ER routine/duties that I do daily at work. There are still things I haven't done though, and I don't know if that is okay or not. It is mainly the "trauma" stuff. When I was going through the ER skills checklist for a travel agency, there were quite a few things I still don't have much experience with/feel comfortable with (example- ART lines- no experience; chest tubes- have only seen one placed once; IO's- still haven't placed one). I mean, is it okay to travel if I function well with the "usual" at my work? Thank you.
  6. Hello, I am planning on moving to Florida and/or starting travel nursing. Right now, I want to actually move to FL as my legal residence, and then either work solely there or start travel nursing. I am applying for a FL license online, and I am confused at what to declare my "primary residence". It states in order to have a multi-state license, FL must be your primary residence. I have to type in my primary state residence now. Currently, I live in another state, but I will move to FL after getting the license. So, what do I do in this situation? Can I not apply for a multi-state license until I move there, and what would that mean?
  7. I don't know what I should do. I have been a nurse for 1 year and 3 months now and been only in ER. While I am comfortable with most of the typical stuff, I seem to struggle with some things. I get nervous about the trauma room as I have had little experience in it. And some of the other nurses including charge nurses think I'm an idiot and i know they make fun of me behind my back. There's still a lot of things I haven't done yet like I've never suctioned a patient or done an IO, for example. I also feel like maybe I forgot a bunch of stuff I learned in school because so much stuff I just don't remember. I want to be a travel nurse in the ER but am waiting until I feel more confident all around.
  8. Thanks for your replies. I will just keep ignoring it and doing my best to not let it bother me. I don't plan on working there forever.
  9. Hi everyone, Just looking for some advice as I have dealt with this a long time, not just as a nurse but in my previous jobs as well. No matter what I do I cannot seem to fit in at work. I am naturally quiet and introverted and kind of socially awkward. I would probably tend to prefer to work alone, however I always try to be nice and helpful to everyone. I am more comfortable around some people than others, and I think the more comfortable I am the more talkative or "myself" I am. Basically I know other nurses talk about me behind my back. I know they've made fun of me for things or made snide comments about me. I heard one nurse say once to others that she had to work with me tonight in an unpleasant way. There's a couple charge nurses who are friends with each other and I know they've gossiped about me too, making fun of things I have done like I am stupid. There's a group of nurses that like to go out after work sometimes and I have gone a couple times with them to try to be friendly and social, but they just talk about sex and gossip/talk crap about a couple other nurses, so I don't care to go anymore. I know I'm not the only person who is gossiped about, but I feel like a target a lot and feel a vibe of disrespect among other nurses, including charge nurses. Now there are some very nice nurses at my job that I like to work with, and I try not to take work home with me, but I can't help it. I have cried and stressed many times because of this. I just want to fit in and be liked and happy while I am at work. I work in the ER and have been there and been a nurse for a little over a year now. I have thought about doing home health nursing instead, So I wont have to work with other coworkers much. But I also would like to do travel nursing so I'm not sure. So I'm just looking for any nice advice please.
