Hello! I found your post via search. I am currently in the same situation as you. Male ICU RN, 37, slapped with a stip on sept, 2023 (for giving 2mg morphine to my pt without NP order) and been searching for work since then. Been living out of my car, broke and depressed but still fighting hard. I live in Dallas, TX. My stipulation is simply to work for 64 hrs/month for 1 yr. No other restrictions or supervisions whatsoever, yet, it has been nearly impossible to find work. I got lucky last year to find a job via a private connection in Austin at a Hospice facility. I worked for 3 mnths but had to leave due to toxic work environment - to protect my already hit license. This has destroyed me financially. I have been looking for work in home care, psych, hospice etc in Dallas and Houston area but no luck yet. I am trying to find/attend job fares now to speak directly with managers. I am exploring all my options. Please do not despair. I sent you a PM. Please, anybody, please, share ideas and info that can get us out of this rot. God bless you

I am in the current VCU ABSN program. I graduate this Dec and it has been the best ride of my life so far! Haven't heard either so I contacted Erica. She said my supervisor should be contacting us soon. She also put me in touch with financial aid office which I was wondering about when we get to talk to someone. They seem a little disorganized

List ONLY the 5 prerequisites for VCU nursing that is required on both sections. I got my statistics prerequisite in one school and the rest (psych, anatomy, physiology, microbiology) from another school. List only from the uni u took your prerequisites and leave the other blank.

For those who got in and should already know that tomorrow is our deadline to accept, submit negative and background drug test results and pay $250 deposit. So I'm guessing this info might somehow be useful to those on the waitlist waiting to hear something. Probably after tomorrow passes.

I had a 3.77 for my bachelors, 3.9 masters and 3.9 for all pre requisites with 2yrs+ hospital PCT experience. Hope that helps.

ACT/SAT/GRE scores are not needed for application. The lengthy processing time they speak of for transcript actually refers to the institution you are getting it from and not NursingCAS in my belief. For instance international transcripts might take a while to be evaluated which is why it's advised to start the process on time. The point is, you still have time to send in your transcript before the 15th next week, it will still be processed by NursingCAS just be sure to get it in before the deadline. It took NursingCAS a week to add mine to the website even though I had to call them several times before they did because they claimed it couldn't be found which was total BS. Eventually one of their agents found it. Send in your transcript ASAP and call them if u have to to speed things up. Good luck.

Has anyone had an issue getting a reference? One of my referees mentioned to me that they have to write an actual letter and upload it on nursingCAS. Is this true? If so, can anyone suggest a template for writing one because I have absolutely no idea how this is done. It is a work reference and my referee needs a template (sadly I think she is clueless on writing one herself). Should I simply write one and send it to her to edit? Thanks

I am not in NY so I don't know much about the PCT there but I was a PCT in Baltimore, MD. I first got my CNA, then I took a quick 2.5 months course at a community college called Advanced Patient Care Skills (PCT). It teaches you the PCT skills which you practice on with dummies and when you finish you get certified by the school as a PCT. You do not take a stateboard or "national" certification exam to as a PCT and even if there is such a thing, it definitely sounds like a huge waste of time and money. Depending on your location, you can get a job as a PCT with or without training as one. For instance, in Uni of MD Medical Center Baltimore, you must get a PCT certificate from an accredited community college. In Johns Hopkins, you must take a 3 month long class and clinicals training as a PCT in their hospital through a program they offer there before you are hired as one. In another hospital in baltimore you get hired as a CNA and get trained to do PCT stuff so you don't need a course for it there. In Richmond,VA where I moved to, a CNA is the same as a PCT. No formal course training needed which sucks because with all my training as a PCT came here to see me on the same level with a regular CNA. Anyway, my advice is you really can do without a "national" PCT certification (if that even exists at all) to be one as far as I know. Besides, I hope your goal is to strive for more in this career field like becoming an RN or something and not remain a CNA pursuing a PCT certificate which is little or no different from a CNA. Truth is, I never wished to work as a CNA in a nursing home once I got my CNA so I only took the PCT course to better my chances at getting into a hospital, and it worked like a charm. Cheers!

I was toying with the idea of a UVA CNL program Vs VCU ABSN as well by the time I made up my mind, the UVA application deadline had just passed sadly! I really would have liked to speak with a professional or anyone in the know if it makes sense career-wise to just do an MSN instead of a BSN! I haven't heard of many people choosing to do a CNL over a BSN yet but maybe I am wrong. What do you think?

Thanks for starting this thread. Been checking every now and then, lazily waiting for someone to start one for a while now. I had questions but a lot has been asnwered by the past year posts and other stuff online. I am still in the process of applying and should be finished by next week when my references complete their part on nursingCAS. I have an international graduate degree OF 3.9 and an international undergrad of 3.77. Working as a PCT in a hospital over 3 yrs now. I just completed all my pre-reqs yesterday with all A's. I have asked around about the program and I hear as competitive as it is, it's still relatively easy to get into if u have ok grades and a great well-written statement showing your passion for patient care. I think the competitive part is after getting in. Never studied in the US but I have heard an accelerated nursing program is no joke! I'm hoping to see for myself and definitely ready for the challenge. I live downtown Richmond (close to VCU) and I am always willing to help any future accepted persons with any info on anything I can help with. Cheers and good luck guys.
