  1. I would have to say talk to your manager. Or ask for a specific baby before you go in for your shift. I found that same thing when I was traveling, they wanted to get "a feel " for me before they gave me the more difficult ones or critical ones. Sometimes I think they just 'assume' that 'older' nurses just would like 'easier' assignments. Speak up for yourself girl!!!!
  2. I totally agree, I was offerred a job at a smaller hospital and they were not willing to bargain, eventhough I had more experience that most who were applying. They are a level 2 now and plan to go to a leve 3 soon, scary when there are new grads ( who have NO NICU experience) and some mother baby nurses ( who are oriented in the NICU). Not sure I would have my infant in there. But my other job, yes is mostly people in their early to late 20's. I am on the brink of 30, so do I still count??
  3. Simple as this. BSN- more theroy, ADN- more clinicals Pay BSN vs. ADN NO DIFFERENCE!!! Sorry this irritates me to death. I ended up getting my BSN because there was a two year wait at the only college around that offerred a ADN program, made sense right. Well I just feel like I spent a LOT of money to get paid the same as someone who spent a quarter of what I did and took the same boards.
  4. Ok yes I agree come into the milennium people!! The one place I work at, using way old charting system that a 5 year old could do. A communication book, yes, pen and paper, and very old thermometers that take forever also!! I am just tired of 'older' nurses who cannot handle ANY change what so ever. We are suppose to go to a level 3 NICU soon and I am scared to death for our poor patients with some of these nurse (and doctors!!!). Please pray our 'new' unit will have updated equipment and technology!!!!
  5. WHOA!!! If you are with a contract that states you will be in that unit and that unit only, you need to contact your agency immediately. Unless it is written that you will float according to need, then you shouldn't. I ended up quitting a contract because they weren't using me as they had hired me in as also. It ISN'T fair to you.
